Packing for a Beach Vacation

August 24th 2016

List of must haves

The weather is great, and the surf and sand call! Be prepared for whatever comes your way with this list of must haves for your stint at the shoreside:

Ever important is what to wear. It’s best to check out the forecast for your destination, consider the activities that you have planned, and go from there. Even though you see sunny skies, don’t be caught unprepared for rain or chilly evenings. An umbrella or poncho comes comfortable sandals or sneakers and socksin handy, as well as a sweatshirt or wrap and some pants for any drop in temperature. Expecting activity? Don’t forget comfortable sandals or sneakers and socks. Looking forward to lounging? Make sure to pack your swimsuit, cover up, a hat and long sleeve shirt for protection from the sun, and let’s not forget sunglasses, of course!

frolic in the wavesKeeping occupied on the beach should be a consideration as well, whether you are a professional sunbather or like to frolic in the waves. Beach pails, snorkels and masks, water toys, frisbees, balls, beach games, and flotation devices will ensure there is enough for everyone to do. E-Readers are great to bring along to cut down on the space taken up by books, but make sure your reading materials are preloaded so you are not stuck on the shore without a way to download more! If music helps you set the mood, consider your mp3 player and headphones or a bluetooth speaker, and don’t forget to bring some bags and baggies to keep electronics safe from the outside elements!

On to the practicalities! Things like sunblock, a travel cooler, and towels are essential, if they are not provided for at your destination. Insect repellent is also a great idea, as flies, mosquitoes, and other pests can gather at the shore. Never forget a rent a beach umbrellafirst aid kit with Band-Aids, Benadryl, hydrogen peroxide, and antibiotic ointment. You can rent a beach umbrella for relief from the sun and beach chairs for optimal comfort. You can rent these once you get to your destination. Make sure you pack chargers for your phone and camera. As always, ensure your travel documents are in order, such as license, passport, and health insurance information, and that you have a stash of cash for emergencies and credit or ATM cards for everything else.

Remember, the beach is all about the perfect combination of sun, sand, and surf, but make sure that you have all that you need to avoid last minute trips to the store and unexpected expenses. And most of all, make sure your Cruise Planners Travel Advisor is at the top of your must have list for any vacation!
