About Valparaiso
Valparaiso is gateway to Santiago, Chile´s cosmopolitan capital city. Wander through colorful streets or watch the local fishermen as they head to shore in brightly painted boats.

Along with its sister-city La serena, Coquimbo is a popular seacoast resort for South American vactioners. Sample the fresh local seafood, visit the Spanish colonial churches of La Serena, or travel up the lovely agricultural Equi Valley to the home of poet Gavriel Mistral, and the Cerro Tololo Observatory´ hugh telescope.
Antofagasta is the largest city of the Norte Grande region, a product of the mining boom that hit the region in the 19th century. Profitable nitrate mines of the last century brought many foreign settlers to the city, and Antofagasta today possesses a markedly European feel in its architecture and ambiance. The Barrio Historico is home to many historic Victorian buildings, and the clock tower of the Plaza Colon is an exact replica of Big Ben. Today, Antofagasta is the embarkation point for copper mined at La Escondida and Chuquicamata -- the latter of which holds the distinction of being the largest open-pit mine in the world.
Antofagasta Attractions
Visitors who want to learn more about Antofagasta and the Norte Grande can visit the Museo Regional--in addition to its interesting exhibits on the history of the city and the mining industry, the museum holds a colorful collection of rock and mineral samples culled from the surrounding region. With 20 km (12 miles) of beachfront and a mild, dry climate, Antofagasta has also developed as a year-round beach resort. The highlight of its shoreline is the Portada, an enormous rock located just to the north of town which the sea has steadily eroded into a dramatic natural arch.
Arica is an oasis, literally. Bordered by desert sand dunes and fertile valleys fed by the melting and life-giving snows of the Andes, this city is located in the heart of some culturally fascinating attractions. The Plaza Colon, Eiffel's iron cathedral of San Marcos, is one such point of interest. Another is the archeology museum in the nearby Azapa Valley. There you'll find pre-Columbian weavings, carvings and mummies from the Chinchorro culture dating back to 10,000 BC.
Arica Attractions
Visit the El Morro de Arica and the Church of San Marcos in this lively Chilean city or see the geoglyphs near Cerro Sagrad.
In 1950 the town took its name from the Libertador General San Martin. It currently shows a series of important tourist centres and others just developing, all of which play different roles according to the services and attractions they deliver. In its surroundings one can enjoy trekking, mountain biking, horse riding, mountaineering, trout fishing, photo safaris and flora and fauna observation.
General San Martin Attractions
From Libertador General San Martin one can tour the Hot Springs circuit called El Caimancito, and others such as Aguas Calientes, Manantial de la Quinta Laguna and El Palmar.
From this location, and after trekking or mule riding through paths carved in the mountains for six hours, one arrives to the Alto Calilegua spot. From here, and after four hours of steep walking, one reaches the top of the Hermoso and Amarillo mountains.
Lima, located seven miles form the port of Callao, was named the City of the Kings. Its grand old quarter is rich with Spanish colonial architecture: The Plaza del Armas has some prime examples. Late in the afternoon, the port of Callao will be filled with fishing boats, returning from a day at sea.
