La Digue is also home to the paradise flycatcher, a rare species found nowhere else in the world. La Digue Activities Explore the 4 square mile island and experience the fascinating, unspoiled world of enormous granite boulders, roads shaded by ancient giant trees and glorious beaches in secluded coves. René Payet Reserve - This nature reserve harbors the black paradise flycatcher, a most rare and beautiful bird that was believed for a time to be extinct. Anse Union - Apart from some small guest houses, La Digue Island Lodge is the island’s main hotel. The finest beach for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving is the long western beach of Anse Union, which is guarded by a splendid coral reef.
