An important, picturesque and enchanting river port 30km (19mi) south of Danang, Hoi An is rich in history and has a unique character. It was a contemporary of Macau, attracting Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese trading vessels, and it retains the feel of centuries past. Its magnificent collection of almost 850 older structures and intact streetscapes just beg to be explored. They include merchants' homes, pagodas, public buildings, a Japanese covered bridge and a whole city block of colonnaded French buildings.

Sa Dec is a small, sleepy town in the Dong Thap province and it was the original setting of the autobiographical novel “The Lover” by Marguerite Duras. This romantic and charming little town still isn’t very touristy and a true hidden gem in the Mekong delta.
There is a very busy, authentic market near the river and a lot of architecture from the colonial period, such as the old market, as well as numerous old mansions and merchant homes. One of these houses belonged to the protagonist in Marguerite Duras’ novel and has been lovingly and traditionally restored. Kampong Chhnang is one of the nine provinces that is part of the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve. The province is famous for its clay pots. This is classed as an urban district and the provincial capital Kampong Chhnang lies within the district. The town is also the capital of the district. The district is quite small and encompasses the provincial town and nearby communes. Kampong Chhnang is the smallest district in Kampong Chhnang province and is surrounded by other Kampong Chhnang districts.
