About Prickly Pear Island
This favored anchorage of seasoned yachtsmen offers a natural wonder that's unique in all the Caribbean. Take a launch to "The Baths" where you will witness the unforgettable sight of giant sea-sculpted boulders and salt-water pools illuminated by the rays of the sun.
Comprising one of the southern islands of the BVI archipelago, Norman Island lies close to the international boundary line separating the British Virgin Islands from the US Virgin Islands. Legend plays a large part in the history of Norman Island with tales of pirates and treasure caves, although the role of the island as the model for the epic "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson is perhaps the most famous legend of all. While the island is now uninhabited, farmers have in the past reared cattle there and today the Caves are one of the most popular tourist attractions in the islands.
Norman Island Attractions
With an area of 610 acres, the island is approximately 2.5 miles long with a central ridge extending along the length of the island creating gently rolling hills with Norman Hill the highest point on the island at 427 feet above sea level. The coast line comprises a number of bays and offshore reefs providing excellent snorkeling and diving within proximity to the island. The Bight is one of the most protected anchorages in the region although Soldier Bay, Benures Bay and Money Bay provide secluded anchorages given the right conditions. Treasure Point, at the southern entrance to The Bight, comprises a rocky headland along which the famous caves can be found at the base of the cliffs allowing access to snorkelers.
Sandy Ground is a village beach on the island of Anguilla, located in the British West Indies. It benefits from a tropical climate and the warm Caribbean waters and is popular with tourists looking for a relaxing beach holiday. Sandy Ground is known by its long curved white sandy beach set against the backdrop of high cliff and a disused salt pond. It is the main port for the small island of Anguilla and its beach is popular with boat racing, beach bars, barbecues and dancing. The island of Anguilla is easy to explore with one main road running through the middle and plenty of beaches and bays to be discovered. The romantic Little Bay offers secluded coves, Junk’s Hole is home to the notorious Palm Grove barbeque, Island Harbour boasts bright coloured working fishing boats and the sands of Meads Bay host hotels for the elegant dining experience. At sunset, head to Crocus Bay and the coral cliffs for the best location on the island to watch the day’s end.
You can easily explore all of Gustavia during a two-hour stroll. Some shops close from noon to 3 or 4, so plan lunch accordingly, but stores stay open past 7 in the evening. Parking in Gustavia is a challenge, especially during vacation times. A good spot to park is rue de la République, alongside the catamarans, yachts, and sailboats.

Charlestown was built in a protected area on the Leeward side of Nevis, situated between Fort Charles and the Fort Black Rocks. Most of the original buildings were destroyed over time by earthquakes, leading to the common practice of building a series of wooden upper floors over a stone ground floor. It has a population of 1500. It is the main centre for government,education,trade and business in Nevis.
