About Marigot
St. Martin is the smallest land divided by two countries in the world. A journey through the island reveals both a French atmosphere in its quaint buildings and a Dutch influence in its flower-lined streets and lovely courtyards. On the Dutch side of the island you can wager a bet at the Casino Royale or dance the night away. On both sides of the island, you can enjoy miles of white beaches, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, day and night diving, parasailing or just sunning.
This favored anchorage of seasoned yachtsmen offers a natural wonder that's unique in all the Caribbean. Take a launch to "The Baths" where you will witness the unforgettable sight of giant sea-sculpted boulders and salt-water pools illuminated by the rays of the sun.
You can easily explore all of Gustavia during a two-hour stroll. Some shops close from noon to 3 or 4, so plan lunch accordingly, but stores stay open past 7 in the evening. Parking in Gustavia is a challenge, especially during vacation times. A good spot to park is rue de la République, alongside the catamarans, yachts, and sailboats.
Charlestown was built in a protected area on the Leeward side of Nevis, situated between Fort Charles and the Fort Black Rocks. Most of the original buildings were destroyed over time by earthquakes, leading to the common practice of building a series of wooden upper floors over a stone ground floor. It has a population of 1500. It is the main centre for government, education, trade and business in Nevis.
Charlestown Attractions
Charlestown's Market Place is the hub of activity on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, and the Cotton Ginnery close by, is active during cotton harvest time (March and April).
Authentic Caribbean foods at Basseterre, and a peaceful setting virtually untouched by tourism are among St. Kitts most enchanting features. For breathtaking views, visit Brimstone Hill Fort, an impressive construction atop Mt Liamuiga that is one of the wonders of the Caribbean.
St. Kitts Attractions
Whether you're a history buff or just want to take in the scenery, be sure to visit the 350-year-old estate, Romney Manor, once owned by a British earl. The beautiful grounds include magnificent gardens, exotic plants and an amazing African Saman tree, which covers half an acre and is believed to be as old as the estate itself.
St. Kitts Activities
Explore Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park. Climb to the top of the main hill to take in amazing views of St. Eustatius and Sandy Point Town.
Walk through Independence Square. Now a small public park, it was built in 1790 for slave auctions and council meetings.
Visit St. George's Cathedral. While originally christened Notre Dame in 1670 by the French, it was destroyed more than once and was most recently rebuilt in 1869 in typical Georgian style.
Tour Nelson's Dockyard, which was originally built as a way station in the 18th century for warships of the British Royal Navy. This historic district has been restored to its former glory and you can sit upon the old fortifications and observation posts that line the harbor. As you evoke the port's nautical past, close your eyes and you can hear the revelry of sailors coming ashore for leave.
Les Saintes (also known as Iles des Saintes) are perfect for the kind of traveler who relishes unspoiled tropical beauty, serenity and French style.
Just 10 km (6 mi) south of Guadeloupe, these idyllic tropical jewels float like exotic dreams in the Caribbean sea. Of the eight little islands, only two are inhabited, and picturesque Terre-de-Haut is the one travelers visit first.
In addition to superb beaches, gorgeous bays, exceptional snorkeling and fascinating historical sites, this romantic island offers a charming village with excellent restaurants, interesting shops and unique art galleries. The other populated island, peaceful Terre-de-Bas, is only a few minutes by boat from Terre-de-Haut and is definitely worth a visit.
Soufriere is a picturesque town, located on the southwest coast of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. The oldest settlement on St. Lucia, it was an important trading center under the French. At its prime in the late 18th century, as many as 100 sugar and coffee plantations flourished in the vicinity. Even after almost two centuries of British rule, the French legacy here is still apparent in the names of people and places, their speech and some of the old town's architecture - enough to give the town character. Many natural attractions, like the sulphur springs, rainforest, waterfalls, botanical gardens, pristine coral reefs and the world famous Piton mountains are found in the area.
Soufriere Attractions
Towering volcanic peaks and peaceful bays guarded by its coastal cliffs contribute to St. Lucia´s treasure of dramatic and interesting sights.
On the north end of this island are the two famous pyramidal Pitons, half a mile high, and the now-silent Soufriere volcano you can walk into and explore.
The easternmost of the Caribbean islands, Barbados is also one of the most beautiful. Opt for one of the many tours available, such as the popular sojourn to tropical Andromeda Gardens. They are situated on a boulder-strewn hillside high above the sea, where ocean waters dramatically thunder against the giant rocks below. The beaches on the exclusive east coast are superb, and you may choose to head straight for one and spend the entire day relaxing. Of course, there is always shopping in Bridgetown.
Bridgetown Attractions
For the ultimate day of fun-in-the-sun Barbados-style, cruise on the MV Harbour to a spectacular sandy beach. Snorkel on reefs teeming with tropical fish. Enjoy the rope swing, sun tanning or walking on the beach. Cruise back along the scenic coast while dancing the calypso or limbo, or just relax on deck.
Bridgetown Activities
Climb into a comfortable safari-rigged Land Rover® and prepare yourself for adventure. Visit places inaccessible by tour bus, such as Gun Hill Signal Station, and go off-road through Joe's River Tropical Rain Forest.
Adventure is in the air and so is the smell of a thousand orchids on this fragrant tour of Orchid World and Fisherpond House.
Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views and learn about island culture and history on a comprehensive island tour of Barbados.
