About Marigot
St. Martin is the smallest land divided by two countries in the world. A journey through the island reveals both a French atmosphere in its quaint buildings and a Dutch influence in its flower-lined streets and lovely courtyards. On the Dutch side of the island you can wager a bet at the Casino Royale or dance the night away. On both sides of the island, you can enjoy miles of white beaches, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, day and night diving, parasailing or just sunning.
Over 45-miles of magnificent beaches dot this low lying coral island. Soak up the sun on powdery sand beaches, then grab your snorkeling gear & explore the spectacular under water world that makes this island a diver´s paradise. Fishing villages & archeological sites abound on this small "eel" shaped island.
Anguilla Activities
There's always a choice of activities on Anguilla... daytime or nighttime. Lazy beach days to rejuvenate your body and lift your spirit. Or art gallery and museum tours, boating to an offshore cay for a secluded picnic, or a long stroll on an uncrowded beach. Each day of your visit can bring a different watersport adventure, or the single adventure of beach chair, umbrella, book and tired toes in refreshing, pristine waters. The choice is yours to make each day.
Two outstanding scenic destinations highlight this Caribbean call. First, "The Baths." This natural wonder - unique in all the Caribbean - consists of giant boulder which tumble across the landscape and atop one another to form labyrinthine caves and clear, salt-water pools that are lit by the rays of the sun. Second is Gorda Sound, a protected anchorage, known the world over by seasoned yachtsmen. Virgin Gorda, Itself, is a rustic cluster of small farms with about 1,000 inhabitants.
Virgin Gorda Attractions
The Baths represent the stellar natural attraction of the British Virgin Islands, with exotic pools and grottos formed by giant boulders strewn across sand beaches. Explorers will revel in the hidden rooms with shafts of light, snorkelers in the coral ledges and caves, sunbathers/ swimmers in the white sand beaches adding to the sparkling clarity of the water. Be careful of the surge when the north swell is running but enjoy the crashing surf on the boulders!
Comprising one of the southern islands of the BVI archipelago, Norman Island lies close to the international boundary line separating the British Virgin Islands from the US Virgin Islands. Legend plays a large part in the history of Norman Island with tales of pirates and treasure caves, although the role of the island as the model for the epic "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson is perhaps the most famous legend of all. While the island is now uninhabited, farmers have in the past reared cattle there and today the Caves are one of the most popular tourist attractions in the islands.
Norman Island Attractions
With an area of 610 acres, the island is approximately 2.5 miles long with a central ridge extending along the length of the island creating gently rolling hills with Norman Hill the highest point on the island at 427 feet above sea level. The coast line comprises a number of bays and offshore reefs providing excellent snorkeling and diving within proximity to the island. The Bight is one of the most protected anchorages in the region although Soldier Bay, Benures Bay and Money Bay provide secluded anchorages given the right conditions. Treasure Point, at the southern entrance to The Bight, comprises a rocky headland along which the famous caves can be found at the base of the cliffs allowing access to snorkelers.
Great Harbour is the main anchorage on Jost Van Dyke and the center for nightlife on this beautiful island. The holding for anchors in Great Harbour can be tricky and now there are some mooring balls to make life easier. Great Harbour has the island’s police station and customs and immigration office. It’s “main road” is just a sandy strip. A small beach, dotted with dinghy docks, runs the length of the bay.
Anegada, an island 10 miles long by 2 1/2 miles wide with extensive salt ponds, reaches its highest point at 28 feet, hence its name which means the "drowned land." Of coral reef origins, Anegada has "extruded" sixteen miles of sandy beaches with a primeval quality. Anegada is "guarded" by the famous Horseshoe Reef which, at eighteen miles long, is one of the world's largest coral reefs.
Anegada Attractions
The Anegada habitat is perfect for a wide variety of shore birds, especially the elegant Roseate Flamingos, which have been restored to the island's massive salt ponds on the western half of the island.
You can easily explore all of Gustavia during a two-hour stroll. Some shops close from noon to 3 or 4, so plan lunch accordingly, but stores stay open past 7 in the evening. Parking in Gustavia is a challenge, especially during vacation times. A good spot to park is rue de la République, alongside the catamarans, yachts, and sailboats.
