The ramparts are intact and encircle the old city with a circumference of more than 1.5 miles. Dubrovnik Activities Drive along the coastline to one of the finest botanical gardens in Croatia, the Arboretum. Spend the day touring the city's rich religious and cultural history. Visit the large Onofrio Fountain, the Franciscan Monastery, and the Rectors' Palace. Visit Lopud Island, the home of many great sailors and sea captains throughout history. With its mild climate, subtropical vegetation, charming footpaths, beautiful scenery, and sandy beaches, it is the perfect spot to relax. Visit the 15th-century Rectors' Palace that was once the seat of Dubrovnik's Republic government. The elected Rector was not permitted to leave this building during his one-month term without permission from the Senate. Today, the palace is a museum with furnished rooms, Baroque paintings, and historical exhibits that will give you a taste of how the ruling class and the aristocracy used to live in Dubrovnik. Take a side trip to the seaside resort of Cavtat. The original town grew up around the ruins of an ancient settlement by the Greeks from Epidaurus. 3	Sunday, 11/2/25	About Bari Fairy-tale houses that look like chanterelle mushrooms. Alberobello´s little round houses with the cone-topped roofs are called trulli - and they are unique. Their orgins are ancient - some date from 3100 B.C. And they are only found here. Bari Attractions Basilica di San NicolaThe Basilica di San Nicola (Saint Nicholas) was founded in 1087 to receive the relics of this saint, which were brought from Myra in Lycia, and now lie beneath the altar in the crypt. The church is one of the four Palatine churches of Apulia (the others being the cathedrals of Acquaviva delle Fonti and Altamura, and the church of Monte Sant'Angelo sul Gargano. Cathedral of St. SabinusThe church of St. Sabinus (the current Duomo of the city) was begun in Byzantine style in 1034, but was destroyed in the sack of the city of 1156. A new building was thus built between 1170-1178, partially inspiring to that of San Nicola. Of the original edifice, only traces of the pavement are today visible in the transept. An important example of Apulian Romanesque architecture, the church has a simple Romanesque façade with three portals; in the upper part is a rose window decorated with monstruous and fantasy figures. The interior has a nave and two aisles, divided by sixteen columns with arcades. The crypt houses the relics of St. Sabinus and the icon of the Madonna Odigitria. The interior and the façade were redecorated in Baroque style during the 18th century, but these additions were deleted in the 1950s restoration. Stadio San Nicola Local football team A.S. 5	Tuesday, 11/4/25	About Catania Scenically located in the shadows of the volcanic Mount Etna, Catania is surrounded by a region rich in citrus trees, eucalyptus forests and olive groves. Tour Via dei Crociferi, where the magnificent Roman Theatre has been reconstructed. Catania Activities Located at the northern end of Via Etnea, the Bellini Gardens offer fine views and a tranquil enclave away from the bustle of Catania’s busy main street. In the Piazza San Francesco stands the house where Catania’s greatest native son, the composer Vincenzo Bellini, was born in 1801. It is now the Bellini Museum, containing memorabilia of the man and his work. The Duomo church is a fine example of Vaccarini’s work. The composer Bellini is buried inside the cathedral and a sumptuous chapel is dedicated to Sant’Agata, Catania’s patron saint. 6	Wednesday, 11/5/25	About Syracuse, Sicily On the East coast of Sicily is the city of Syracuse. Some people says that it has the best natural harbour of Italy. Once a great rival to ancient Athens, the old city is based in a small island next to the coast and contains many historical buildings. Archimedes lived and died here. Catania is a city that dates from the 18th century, reconstructed after a series of earthquakes. Mount Etna, the greater active volcano of Europe, is close and its continuous eruption attracts many tourists. Visit the archaeological museum Paolo Orsi. Break for lunch in a noble villa in the gulf in front of the island of Ortigia. Explore the city and its monuments, such as the Greek theather and the Dyonisuss Ear. Many impressive 16th-century limestone buildings and fortifications from the Knights have endured, helping make the city of Valetta simply magnificent to experience today. Valletta Attractions Explore the city's main square and pass many of its ancient buildings. Then head to St. John's Cathedral, founded by the Knights of the Order of St. John during the 16th century. Today the cathedral is the final resting place for many of the knights - their headstones line the cathedral floor. Valletta Activities Visit the Armory, St, John's Co-Cathedral, and the 18th century Manoel Theater for some more spectacular sights. Visit the National Museum of Archaeology. It houses collections of pottery, sculpture, statuettes, stone implements and personal ornaments recovered from the Maltese megalithic temples and other prehistoric sites. Explore the Palace of the Grand Masters, completed in 1574. It contains portraits of the Grand Masters of the Order and European monarchs, interesting furniture and other works of art.
