About Seattle
Seattle is often characterized by its laid-back attitude and rainy climate, but this thriving metropolis also offers one-of-a-kind architecture, the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges, and a unique urban sophistication.
Seattle Attractions
Pacific Science Center began as the United States Science Pavilion during the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. Millions came to explore the wonders of science during the World's Fair and upon closing ceremonies, the Science Pavilion was given new life as the private not-for-profit Pacific Science Center, becoming the first U.S. museum founded as a science and technology center.
Seattle Activities
Woodland Park Zoo is a conservation and education institution demonstrating the value, beauty and interdependence of all living things.
See, touch and explore our amazing underwater world at the Seattle Aquarium. Get face-to-fin with marine life and discover the natural wonders of the Puget Sound.
The Space Needle is located at Seattle Center. That's an apt description of where we are: the center of Seattle. Whatever your interests - theatre, ballet, opera, professional sports, rock 'n' roll history, roller coasters, science, movies, shopping, exploring or just plain walking around - the city unfurls from the Space Needle.
The Washington Park Arboretum is a spectacular urban green space on the shores of Lake Washington just east of downtown Seattle and south of the University of Washington. Its 230 acres comprise a dynamic, living museum with collections of oaks, conifers, camellias, Japanese maples and hollies that are known internationally as our country's largest.Check out the Experience Music Project, a rock-n-roll museum known not only for its contents, but for its architectural design.Stroll through the historic district of Pioneer Square, filled with art galleries, restaurants, and plenty of bookstores and boutiques.Gain some historical insight at the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.
Located North of Seattle, Anacortes is the jump-off point for the fabulous San Juan Islands. The Washington State Ferries take you to the Islands and to Vancouver Island, Canada.Great fishing and sightseeing.
Lopez Island is the third largest of the San Juan Islands and an unincorporated town in San Juan County, Washington, United States. Lopez Island is 29.81 square miles in land area.
Lopez Island, San Juan Islands Attractions
The rocky outcroppings of Lopez Island play host to harbor seals—and it’s also orca territory, so whether you opt for kayaking or a chance to snorkel, keep your eyes peeled above and below the surface. Visit San Juan Island—the second largest landmass in the archipelago—to explore tide pools and skiff or kayak into hidden coves, as conditions permit.
Friday Harbor and San Juan Island provide a remarkably simple escape, serviced directly by the Washington State ferry system and easily accessible from Seattle, Washington and Vancouver or Victoria, British Columbia. Once you're on San Juan Island, as the ebb and flow of island life leaves you relaxed, refreshed, and rejuvenated, you just might forget how easy it was to get here and find it unbearably hard to leave.
Located on the southern tip on the island of Vancouver in British Columbia, the city of Victoria is probably best known for its mild climate and active outdoor lifestyle. In fact, the city has been named the "fittest city" in Canada more than once. Among the many attractions are world-famous gardens, its 150 years of British history, gourmet dining and fantastic shopping.
Victoria Activities
Visit the world-famous Butchart Gardens or the lush and exotic Butterfly Gardens and see how Victoria earned the nickname "The City of Gardens."
Explore Victoria's history on a Grand City Drive. Visit the awe-inspiring Craigdarroch Castle with its 39 rooms and five stories of stained glass and end the day with high tea at the world-famous Fairmont Empress Hotel.
Tour a few of the local pubs and microbreweries along the Victoria Ale Trail or go wine tasting at one of the area's award-winning vineyards.
Enjoy an afternoon of sightseeing on a tour of exclusive residential districts, historic Chinatown, and Antique Row, one of the many shopping districts.
Port Angeles is a city in Washington. It is the largest city on the Olympic Peninsula. The area's harbor was dubbed Puerto de Nuestra Señora de los Angeles (Port of Our Lady of the Angels) by Spanish explorer Francisco de Eliza in 1791, but by the mid-1800s the name had been shortened and partially anglicized to its current form.
Port Angeles is home to Peninsula College and is the birthplace of football hall of famer John Elway.
Port Townsend, founded in 1851, is a city of 8,400 which prides itself on its historic charm, maritime heritage, and stunning natural setting.
Located between the Olympic Mountains and the waters of Puget Sound, it is the gateway to the recreational lands of the greater Olympic Peninsula. The city harbors a National Landmark Historic District along its waterfront, and a wealth of outstanding Victorian era homes.
Poulsbo is a city on Liberty Bay in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. It is the fourth largest city in Kitsap County. The population was 9,200 at the 2010 census.
Prior to the arrival of Scandinavian immigrants in the 1880s, the Suquamish people had names for several areas in what is now Poulsbo; one of those names, tcu-tcu-lats, means "place of the maples".[5] Their ancestors occupied villages on the Liberty Bay shoreline — among them, ho-CHEEB[6] — for at least 5,000 years, hunted in local forests and floodplains, fished in bays and streams here, and harvested shellfish along the marine shoreline.
After the signing of the Treaty of Point Elliott in 1855, most Suquamish people here relocated to the Port Madison Indian Reservation, although the Suquamish Tribe reserved — and to this day exercises — certain cultural and natural resource rights in its historical territory, including Poulsbo.
Poulsbo Attractions
As a reminder of the city's early Scandinavian immigrants, downtown Poulsbo maintains a Scandinavian theme and is a popular regional tourist destination. One of its local products is now available worldwide, Poulsbo Bread, originally made in the local bakery. Many visitors arrive by boat; there are three marinas near the town, and the town's harbor is an excellent anchorage.
