The popularity of Portugal and Spain’s Douro Valley cannot be ignored—that’s why we are pleased to debut our newest Douro River ship, the spectacular AmaDouro, in 2019. Like our other ships, the AmaDouro will feature spacious, elegantly appointed staterooms, most of which will include balconies to take in views of the breathtaking hills and terraced vineyards along the river. Staterooms will also include Entertainment-On-Demand, featuring free high-speed Internet access, unlimited Wi-Fi, movies, music and English language TV stations; climate-controlled air conditioning; and an in-room safe. Currently being designed, the AmaDouro’s Panoramic Lounge will be a stylish and inviting space for a drink and our nightly entertainment. The ship also features a massage room, fitness room, Sun Deck swimming pool and a gift shop, as well as the culinary delights of the Main Restaurant, where you’ll be able to sample the region’s famous Port wine.

This is an ancient port steeped in history and tradition. It is a highly atmospheric place that has become known for its monuments by renowned architects (Gustave Eiffel's Dona Maria Bridge, Nicolau Nasoni's Clerigos Tower, Rem Koolhaas' Casa da Musica, or Siza Vieira's Serralves Museum),
Backed by the Serra do Marao mountains and overlooking the wide valley of the River Douro, the peaceful town of Peso da Regua is the official centre of the Port wine growing region. From here, barrels of wine were traditionally transported to Vila Nova de Gaia in the past using wooden sailing ships called rabelos. Today, the journey is made by road using specially-adapted tankers.
Regua Activities
Regua is the center for Port wine production. Visit a local inn for wine tasting and a lecture on Port wine.
Relax for an evening at Solar da Rede, a beautifully restored 18th-century "pousada" manor house located high above the river.
Vega de Terron is a small port town on the Douro River; its most distinctive feature is the Chafariz dos Pretos fountain near the market square. Vega de Terron serves as a Douro River gateway to the fascinating Spanish city of Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it is also near Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, a small village with surrounding defensive walls, offering insight into life in the region as early as the 13th century, when Count Rodrigo Gonzalez de Giron signed the town over to the Portuguese king pursuant to the Treaty of Alcanices. Castelo Rodrigo has historically been a way station for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela; St. Francis of Assisi is said to have spent a night here while making the journey to the holy site.
