The bustling resort of Alicante serves not only as the port for Madrid, but is also one of the loveliest vacation spots along Spain's sunny Costa Blanca. Early records indicate that the city dates back to a Carthaginian settlement established in 325 BC. These settlers were followed by the Romans, who equally found the area inviting. The city's occupation by Roman and Moorish forces accounts for a notable and varied heritage.
