Everything from pre-Columbian fetishes and sculptures to Renaissance-era fountains imported from Italy are included in its hallway galleries. At the heart of the ship an elegant sculpture by Luciano Vistosi, inspired by the myriad of moods and colors of a kaleidoscope, greets visitors in a soaring three-story atrium. About Cape Town
Cape Town's name originated from the term 'Cape of Good Hope' when Bartholomew Diaz and other seafarers looked forward to the sight of Table Mountain, like an inn that promised hospitality and prosperity. The presence of Table Mountain in all its splendour still invokes this kind of emotion. Cape Town is steeped in a rich history and is a cultural melting pot with its diverse and vibrant character being derived from Khoisan and other African tribes from the North, and Indonesian, French, Dutch, British and German settlers. Bustling and beautiful, the cosmopolitan nature of Cape Town means that one never tires of the multitude of experiences it has to offer.
Cape Town Activities
Table Mountain is one of South Africa's greatest landmarks and towers 1,086m above the City of Cape Town.
One of the most significant and symbolically charged pieces of land in South Africa, Robben Island guards the entrance to Table Bay. The name hails from the Dutch word for seals, The island was home to Nelson Mandela who was imprisoned there along with other political prisoners. Now a living museum, the island and its ghosts are visited voluntarily. As a place of history, education and insight into South Africa’s past, this is an essential excursion. The return boat trip (half an hour each way) to this World Heritage Site and a guided tour around the museum by an ex-inmate is an experience never to miss.
The Kirstenbosch Estate covers 528 hectares, 36 hectares make up the central landscaped garden on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, it is home to more than 8 500 indigenous plant species, and is known as one of the Seven Magnificent Botanical Gardens of the world.
In 1982 two breeding pairs of African penguins (once known as Jackass penguins thanks to the braying sound they make) moved into prime beachfront estate at Boulders beach between Simonstown and Cape Point. Today there are over 3 000 of these birds living here and the area is now a National Park. Penguins can be viewed up close as they frolic in the water and waddle on land. Sometimes it's hard to tell who is watching who. You're likely to see penguin pairs strolling along the boardwalks and in the park. This is the one place in the world you will be able to swim and sunbathe with penguins.

About Luderitz
The hazy Atlantic-coast town of Luderitz has immense appeal for its barren beauty and solitude. Many charming and fine buildings reveal its colonial history as the first German settlement in South West Africa.
Luderitz Activities
A visit to the Luederitz Museum in Diaz Street is a very worthwhile experience. The museum illustrates the history of the town, informs about diamond mining, the indigenous population, about life in the desert as well as on fishing and marine life.
The new Luederitz Waterfront is an ambitious project, inspired by the successful Cape Town Waterfront. At present it is still lacking tenants who can afford the rent, and the offers for tourists are limited.
Of great interest is the ghost town of Kolmanskop, which once formed the centre of the diamond industry in Namibia. One-hour guided tours take place only in the mornings.

About Las Palmas, Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is the third largest island in the Canary Archipelago after Tenerife and Fuerteventura. Almost circular in shape, Gran Canaria is often referred to as a "miniature continent" due to its great variety of scenery. Generally divided into two distinct climatic areas - the arid south and the more humid north - the island features diverse natural attractions, including desert-like landscapes, golden dunes, lush vegetation, soaring mountains and awe-inspiring cliffs. Las Palmas, with a population of about 350,000, is the largest city in the archipelago, situated on the northeast tip of the island. As befits a modern, active city, Las Palmas boasts a number of museums, lovely parks, beaches, and a lively nightlife, providing perfect diversions for the many visitors who flock here. Las Palmas also serves as the starting point to the spectacular interior as well as to the southern part of the island, where bustling resorts line popular beaches, and the famous sand dunes are found at Maspalomas.
Las Palmas, Gran Canaria Attractions
The most important sites are found in Vegueta, the historical center in the southern part of Las Palmas. Among the attractions here are stately old homes with balconies facing narrow streets, of which the most prominent is the Casa de Colon, residence of the first governors of the island.

About Arrecife
Lanzarote is perhaps the most unique among the Canary Islands, astounding visitors with its amazing landscapes. Due to a massive volcanic eruption in 1730 that lasted for six years, one third of the island was covered by a sea of lava. In 1824, a new volcano thrust out of the earth's crust and once again molten lava poured over a good part of Lanzarote, leaving a lunar landscape of more than a hundred craters, lava fields, and layers of cinders and pebbles. Dromedaries found here add to this bizarre scenery. Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, is situated on the island's eastern coast. Blackened lava and yellow sands provide a dramatic backdrop. Home to the archipelago's largest fishing fleet, the harbor is packed with boats. While Arrecife itself has little to offer beyond a modern art museum, it provides an excellent starting point for exploration into the fascinating interior. Especially a trip to the Fire Mountains should not be missed.
Arrecife Attractions
It is impossible to mention Lanzarote without mentioning at the same time the island’s most famous son, Cesar Manrique. As an artist and architect, he sought to construct buildings as extended natural forms. He began to paint abstract canvases, which made their way to the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Some of his masterworks on Lanzarote include the Cactus Garden and Los Jameos del Agua, where within the grotto’s lava formations Manrique incorporated a concert cave, a restaurant and a bar. His home, donated to the people of Lanzarote, is now known as the Fundacion Cesar Manrique. The living room has been transformed into a gallery displaying a private collection of his works.
Arrecife Activities
Guanapay Castle - The remains of this castle, built in the 16th century, stand on the edge of a volcano. From the summit, there is a vast panorama including Teguise, Lanzarote's former capital, and Graciosa Island on the northern horizon.

About Oslo
Oslo promotes itself as an outdoors city where the people are friendly and the air and water are clean. It also unashamedly bills itself as Scandinavia's top destination and proudly boasts that its summer climate 'outwarms' all its rivals from home and abroad. In fact its 'niceness' is perhaps the most lasting impression that most visitors take home with them. It's not spectacular and there are other places in Norway that are more exciting, but Oslo is free from the very things that makes staying in most capital cities tedious. It's compact but not too small, it's old but not in decay, it's expensive but there are ways around it and it's welcoming without being in your face. So if you've saved your pennies and want to see a slice of Scandinavian beauty, pack your bags, head to Oslo and enjoy... everyone does.
Oslo Attractions
For a spectacular view of the city and the fjord, visit Akershus Castle. Sitting on a cliff, this fortress was originally built in 1300. The present structure dates mainly from the 17th century and features quaint buildings and beautiful grounds.

About London/Dover
Restless, enduring and wonderful, London is Europe's largest city. And surely, if you have the choice to visit only two or three cities of the world in your lifetime, by all means make one of them London. The Romans started it all. The city they developed was "the square mile," - and Londoners still hunt for Roman relics in the Thames. History is everywhere you look in London, yet today the city is as modern and metropolitan as any city on earth. By day, London is buzzing with the frenetic pace of commerce not even Dickens could have imagined. By night, the excitement and glitter of theatres, cinemas, pubs and restaurants beckons throngs of travellers from around the world. But there is another London, a peaceful London of cool museums, quiet tea rooms, immaculate gardens and hushed churches. There is Royal London - ancient pageantry in a modern kingdom - with its palaces, pomp and precise manoeuvres at the Changing of the Guard. And there's outrageous London, the urban gathering ground for Cockney pitchmen, "fringe" theatre and the city's youth, with their own distinctive style. London, this extraordinary city of contrasts, holds a stunning abundance of hidden-round-the-corner surprises. You owe it to yourself to explore them all. Here, then, is the London you'll come to know and remember.

Ship: ms Volendam
In addition to fresh flowers throughout the ship, Holland America Line has drawn on its collection of incredible artwork to enhance the interior of the ship's public spaces. Sail aboard Volendam and explore Asia or Australia, Alaska, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
