And though centuries of wars and fires have destroyed Shuri Castle many times over, most recently in the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, the meticulous reconstruction that was completed in 1992 is a certainly a sight to see.
Ishigaki Island is the main island of the Yaeyama Islands and the region's transportation hub. Ishigaki City, the Yaeyama's only and Japan's southernmost city, is the site of the region's major airport and boat terminal. Ishigaki offers several nice beaches and fantastic snorkeling and diving in the surrounding coral reefs. Ishigaki's rivers, while not quite as wild as those of nearby Iriomote, also offer a jungle like scenery and are nice to explore by canoe. Various hiking opportunities exist in the island's hilly interior.

The transparent waters around the island are full of coral reefs, making scuba diving the number one activity on Ishigaki. In particular, Manta Scramble, just off the island's north coast, is a legendary spot for manta ray spotting.
The lush greenery of the port of Keelung is only a half-hour away from Taipei, the island nation´s political, economic, and cultural center. Explore the National Palace Museum which houses the world's largest and most valuable collection of Chinese art; the Confucius Shrine, built in honor of the revered religious leader; and the 200-year old Lung Shan Temple.

Shiandung Cave is a great place to visit. It is one of Keelung's most popular religious as well as sightseeing attractions. This sea-eroded cave, more than 80 meters long,has walls decorated with lifelike carvings of the 18 Arhats of Buddhist lore.
Located on the eastern coast of Japan and surrounded by ocean and mountains, Miyako's focal point is Jodo-ga-hama Beach along the Rias coast. The name of the beach translates to "just like paradise," and is a tangle of inlets, wide beach and rocky formations that reach from aquamarine sea to clear blue sky. The promenade is an easy stroll that leads to Mt. Usugiyama and its stunning views.
