Highlights are the 180 metres tall Euromast which was built in the record time of 23 days, the impressive sculpture by Osip Zadkine entitled "The Destroyed City" and the town hall resplendent with its embellished facade in the style of the Flemis Neo-Renaissance. Rotterdam Activities The Havenmuseum shows the presence of the port of Rotterdam in the heart of Rotterdam. The Maritiem Museum in Rotterdam offers a wealth of information about the shipping industry, both past and present. The Openlucht Binnenvaart Museum offers berths to historical commercial (sailing) vessels in the Oude Haven area as well as parts of Delfshaven in Rotterdam. Close to the Oude Haven on the Wijnhaven, you will also find the Mariniers museum. Here, visitors can learn anything and everything there is to know about the lives of 'our boys', the ships and the history of the Royal Dutch Navy. 6	Thursday, 10/7/27	About Agadir In 1505 the tiny village of Agadir made its first mark on history. The Portuguese set up a trading post there, defended by the Santa Cruz fortress on Cap de Gue. Although a profitable endeavor, their stay was brief, as in 1541 they were ejected by the founder of the Saadian dynasty. A golden age then followed for Agadir, with ships arriving every day to take on cargos of sugar cane, dates, wax skins, oils, spices and gold. However, over the years Agadir went into decline and in 1960 it was destroyed by an earthquake. Today, Agadir has been reborn as a holiday capital. Constructed away from high risk areas using anti-seismic techniques, Agadir is an engaging town. The dormant white of its sculptural buildings is contrasted by the multi-colored flowers that adorn its tranquil gardens. Vacationers drink in the sea air, sitting at tables on the cafe terraces or strolling around the bazaars. While a little further away there is all the bustling activity surrounding the most important fishing port in Morocco, with its fleet of spruce trawlers bobbing up and down on the Atlantic swell. 7	Friday, 10/8/27	About Arrecife Lanzarote is perhaps the most unique among the Canary Islands, astounding visitors with its amazing landscapes. Due to a massive volcanic eruption in 1730 that lasted for six years, one third of the island was covered by a sea of lava. In 1824, a new volcano thrust out of the earth's crust and once again molten lava poured over a good part of Lanzarote, leaving a lunar landscape of more than a hundred craters, lava fields, and layers of cinders and pebbles. Dromedaries found here add to this bizarre scenery. Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, is situated on the island's eastern coast. Blackened lava and yellow sands provide a dramatic backdrop. Home to the archipelago's largest fishing fleet, the harbor is packed with boats. While Arrecife itself has little to offer beyond a modern art museum, it provides an excellent starting point for exploration into the fascinating interior. Especially a trip to the Fire Mountains should not be missed. Arrecife Attractions It is impossible to mention Lanzarote without mentioning at the same time the island�s most famous son, Cesar Manrique. As an artist and architect, he sought to construct buildings as extended natural forms. He began to paint abstract canvases, which made their way to the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Some of his masterworks on Lanzarote include the Cactus Garden and Los Jameos del Agua, where within the grotto�s lava formations Manrique incorporated a concert cave, a restaurant and a bar. His home, donated to the people of Lanzarote, is now known as the Fundacion Cesar Manrique. The living room has been transformed into a gallery displaying a private collection of his works. 17	Monday, 10/18/27	About Alesund The coastal town of Alesund is the commercial capital of the More og Romsdal district. But more important, it is noted for its characteristic Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) buildings, which some claim make Alesund one of the most beautiful towns in Norway. Today, narrow streets are crammed with buildings topped with turrets, spires and gables that bear decorations of dragonheads and curlicues. As one of the few remaining Art Nouveau towns in the world, in 1998 Alesund was awarded the coveted Houens National Memorial Prize for the preservation of its unique architecture. Alesund Activities Atlantic Sea Park - Located about two miles west of Ålesund, this unique Sea Park is built into a large stretch of coastal area with fishing stands, hiking trails, bathing sites and outstanding diving venues. It features large aquariums teeming with ocean life from up and down the Atlantic. Fish feeding is daily at 1:00 p.m. Ålesund Museum - The exhibits at this museum concentrate on the history of sealing, fishing, shipping, the fire of 1904, the German occupation during World War II and the town's distinctive Jugendstil architecture. Ålesund Church - The church was built in 1909 in Norman style. It boasts splendid frescoes and beautiful stained-glass windows. The gable windows behind the organ were an inauguration gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II. Municipal ParkLocally known as Byparken, it features a statue of Rollo, which was presented to the people of Ålesund from the city of Rouen in 1911. 18	Tuesday, 10/19/27	About Andalsnes Andalsnes is a modern town with a history deeply shaped by WWII. Located at the mouth of a fjord, the town is a hotspot for climbing, fishing and skiing. Visit Andalsnes on a Norwegian Fjord itinerary or arrive via the scenic Rauma Railway. Andalsnes Attractions Andalsnes is the starting point for one of the great motor drives in Norway: the Trollstigvegen, a 2-hour drive along Route 63 south to Geiranger. The highway climbs to 620m (2,034 ft.) over a distance of 8km (5 miles). The Orneveien or "Eagle's Road" down to Geiranger was a marvel of Norwegian engineering upon its completion in 1952. Andalsnes Activities Vegmuseum, Trollstigen , is a little museum at the pass, with exhibitions relating the story of how this incredible road came to be. Another grand highlight of the area is en route to Dombås (Rte. 9). Both road and train lines follow the Troll Wall or Trollveggen, a major challenge for mountaineers, rising 1,800m (5,905 ft.). A combined Norwegian and British team "conquered" it in 1965. The visitor center distributes more than a dozen leaflets outlining the best hiking trails through the Romsdalen Alps, a string of mountains enveloping Åndalsnes. The most dramatic route -- and our all-time favorite -- is the full-day jaunt that begins 50m (164 ft.) north of Åndalsnes and climbs to the summit of Nesaksla Mountain, rising 715m (2,345 ft.) over Åndalsnes. At the top you're rewarded with another one of those awesome panoramas. On a clear day you can see down to the Romsdalsfjord. From here the climb continues to the summit of Høgnosa at 991m (3,251 ft.) and on to Åkesfjellet at 1,215m (3,986 ft.). The Romsdalsfjord is one of the most scenic in western Norway, cutting a deep gash into the earth and extending west of Åndalsnes. The tourist office can arrange 4-hour fishing tours of the fjord at a cost of 250NOK ($36) per person. An annual local license can be obtained for180NOK ($25) from the tourist office. Highlights are the 180 metres tall Euromast which was built in the record time of 23 days, the impressive sculpture by Osip Zadkine entitled "The Destroyed City" and the town hall resplendent with its embellished facade in the style of the Flemis Neo-Renaissance. Rotterdam Activities The Havenmuseum shows the presence of the port of Rotterdam in the heart of Rotterdam. The Maritiem Museum in Rotterdam offers a wealth of information about the shipping industry, both past and present. The Openlucht Binnenvaart Museum offers berths to historical commercial (sailing) vessels in the Oude Haven area as well as parts of Delfshaven in Rotterdam. Close to the Oude Haven on the Wijnhaven, you will also find the Mariniers museum. Here, visitors can learn anything and everything there is to know about the lives of 'our boys', the ships and the history of the Royal Dutch Navy. The Wereldmuseum Rotterdam focuses on encounters and cross-cultural inspiration. How can one live in a cube house? In Rotterdam you will find the answer.
