About Tokyo
Even though Tokyo is among the largest, most frenetic cities in the world, it's still able to maintain a great deal of efficiency and charm. Amid the endless buzzing neon signs and the overhead cable webs, Tokyo is home to some of the world's most impressive architecture, stylish shops and 4-star restaurants. But just a short distance outside the clamor of the city is a whole different world. In the surrounding small towns and villages you'll get a glimpse into Japan's rich culture and traditions. Here you'll discover scores of wooden residential homes, ancient temples, shrines and imperial gardens. From the frenzy-filled metropolis to the tranquil bonsai-tree-lined neighborhoods, Tokyo is truly a study in delightful contrasts.
Tokyo Attractions
Tokyo has so many incredible things for a visitor to see and do there just isn't time to do it all. But if you want to experience the true heart and soul of Tokyo, a visit to Kokyo, Japan's Imperial Palace, is a must. This magnificent, awe-inspiring edifice is an architectural marvel and home to the Emperor of Japan. Another cultural and architectural landmark not to be missed is the Sensoji Temple. Built in the 7th century, this is Tokyo's oldest and most significant Buddhist temple. This site is very popular with tourists, so plan to visit early. There are a number of traditional shops and restaurants nearby if the lines are long.
Osaka is the second largest city in Japan, and is known to be a friendly, easygoing city. The nigthlife is extensive and it is an excellent place for shopping. The variety and quality of restaurants is perhaps the best in the country.

Kochi is the capital of Kochi Prefecture on the southern coast of Shikoku. The city is small and friendly, with a casual atmosphere and a dose of southern flair.
Kochi boasts several attractions of interest to travelers. A well preserved, original hilltop castle from the feudal period marks Kochi's downtown. Nearby on another mountain, Godaisan, pilgrims visit Chikurenji Temple, one of the 88 temples along the Shikoku Pilgrimage. The city is also the proud home of Sakamoto Ryoma, who played a role in realizing the Meiji Restoration. The Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum is located at the beautiful Katsurahama Beach, just south of the city center.
The city was founded on April 1, 1924. On January 1, 2006 the towns of Tano, Sadowara, and Takaoka merged into the city.
Miyazaki Attractions
* Miyazaki Jingu, a shrine in the city's center, sacred to Japan's first emperor, Jinmu, Heiwadai Tower or Peace Tower (also known as the Hakko ichiu monument), in the Heiwadai garden, Aoshima Subtropical Botanical Garden
Set on a bay in the Inland Sea, Hiroshima was the infamous site of the first atomic bomb explosion of August, 1945. Its tragic results are reflected in the sobering photographs of Peace Park. However, perhaps the best reason to visit Hiroshima is the enchanting island of Miyajima with its famous Itsukushima Shinto shrine, considered one of Japan´s three most beautiful sights. Its famous ´torii´ stands just offshore, a tall, vermilion- colored symbol of Japan, which appears to float during high tide.
Hiroshima Attractions
Visit the skeletal A-Bomb Dome, the Memorial Peace Park and Museum and the statue to the children who died. Stroll through beautifully landscaped Hiroshima Gardens, visit the rebuilt Hiroshima Castle or journey to the exquisite sacred island of Miyajima, just a few miles offshore for a serene and uplifting walk through its dense forests and see the extraordinary Itsukushima Shrine.

Post-Mao-era Shanghai is light-years away from its restrained past (and even farther away from the equally unrestrained reputation it held for a long time before that). Today's Shanghai is firmly focused on the future, a bustling metropolis with a revitalized port and a sizzling art/shopping/restaurant scene that rivals even the most cosmopolitan of its Western cousins. Anyone with an eye for the global stage just has to see this city.
Shanghai Attractions
Once you've traced Shanghai's colorful past along The Bund (the famed colonial-era street that forms the city's waterfront) and the French Concession (a goldmine of art deco architecture), make time for the Yu Gardens in the Old City. Eighteen years in the making (and nearly obliterated during the Opium War in 1842), this exquisite example of Ming garden design is well worth the visit.
The Yellow Sea is a large inlet of the western Pacific Ocean lying between mainland China on the west and north and the Korean peninsula on the east. It is situated to the north of the East China Sea, which it bounds on a line running from the mouth of the Yangtze River (Chiang Jiang) to Cheju Island off South Korea. It measures about 600 miles (960 km) from north to south and about 435 miles (700 km) from east to west. In the northwest part of the sea, northwest of a line between the Liaodong Peninsula to the north and the Shandong Peninsula to the south, is the Bo Hai (Gulf of Chihli).
Qingdao is one of China's major cities. Located on the north east coast of China, Qingdao is well known as a very beautiful coastal city and a holiday resort in China and the world.
Buildings that reflect Chinese, Japanese and Russian architectural styles attest to Dalian´s strategic importance as a northern ice-free port. The city´s artisans reproduce pictures with shell fragments, while glassblowers fashion fanciful crystal animals. Dalian also sports several popular beaches and a large seaside park.
Dalian Attractions
Xinghai Park - This park's central square features a huabiao, a column carved with cloud images and topped with a mystical creature, similar to the one in Tiananmen Square. Polar Aquarium - Opened in 2002, this aquarium is the largest polar aquarium in the world, and showcases over 300 sharks, 3,000 fish and performances by dolphins and otters.Dalian Modern History Museum - This museum illustrates the history of the young city of Dalian with exhibits and video/audio displays.
The capital as well as the second largest city in China is home to more than 14 million people and a whole lot of traffic - but many more reasons to make this the one city not to be missed in China. The energy is palpable. Gone are the days of buttoned tunic uniforms and conformity - replaced by a vivacious sense of individuality accentuated with pulsing colors and buzzing electronics. Sprinkled through it all are the notable treasures that hark back as early as the 7th century.
Beijing Attractions
Between the Imperial Palace (Forbidden City), Tiananmen Square and the Great Wall of China, it's hard to choose just one thing not to be missed. The good news is, you can see two of these together. The northern side of Tiananmen Square is adjacent to the Forbidden City. Take in the world's largest (and perhaps most infamous) public square, sprawling the size of 90 football fields, then enter the Forbidden City, so named because the home of the Chinese Emperor was closed to visitors until the 1920s. The palace's construction began in 1406 and holds many national treasures created over the centuries.
Chengdu, located in the center of the Sichuan Basin, is known as the "Land in Heaven" because of its agricultural wealth.
Chengdu is a city of broad streets and inviting parks. Points of interests include Du Fu Cottage, a shrine built in honor of the famous Tang Dynasty poet; Wu Hou Shrine, a shrine built for the Chinese military strategist of the third century, Zhug Liang; and the River View Pavilion (Wangjiang Lou) where 120 varieties of bamboo can be found.
Northwest of Chengdu are the Dujiangyan Dam, built in 150 B.C. and Green City Mountain which is famous for its Taoist and Buddhist temples and monasteries.
One of the world's highest plateaus (approximately 12,000 ft. above sea level). Home to the Potala Palace, former living quarters of the Dalai Lama. Visit one of Tibet's holiest shrines, the revered 7th century Jokhang Temple, where pilgrims come to prostrate themselves before the statue of the Sakyamuni Buddha, lavishly enthroned in silver and gold.

If you're looking to broaden your knowledge of Chinese civilization, you've come to the right place. Located in the heart of China, Xian (or Xi'an) is listed among Athens, Cairo and Rome as a major ancient civilization capital. It's home to many important historic treasures, such as the City Wall, remains from the Neolithic Banpo Village (dating as far back as 8000 BC!) and some of the most beautiful pagodas you're likely to see in China.
Xian Attractions
No trip to Xian would be complete without a visit to one of the greatest archeological excavations in the world. At the Museum of Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses, you can view life-size soldiers, weapons, horses and chariots lined up for battle and guarding the mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, the young emperor who assumed power at age 13. The archeological recovery of the figures from the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) is still in progress, having begun in 1974. Before that, the ancient treasure simply lay buried underfoot.
