Much was destroyed when the games were outlawed as a pagan festival in 393 A.D., but visitors can still see the Temple of Zeus and the 45,000 seat stadium. Its western neighbors are the former Yugoslav republics of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The old town of Kotor is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in this area of the Mediterranean. It has succeeded in maintaining its original form, typical of towns from the 12th-14th centuries. The only car in the old walled section is a replica of a small Fiat Cinquecento with a mini-trailer, used to collect the trash. The Roman forum is well preserved; the Venetians walls still stand as do ancient Croatian churches, monasteries and palaces; and Zadar boasts a fine collection of gold and silver. Zadar has always been outward looking and part of the Mediterranean world. It has shared agriculture, shipbuilding, shipping and trade with people of the Mediterranean. Zadar Attractions The most outstanding monument of Zadar is, unquestionably, the former church of St. Donat dedicated to the Trinity. The church named after the bishop Donat from the begining of the 9th century, who is beleived to have had erected it, was first recorded in the celebrated work by Byzantine emperor Constantine Porfirogrenetus on the management of a state. Drawing upon the early Byzantine tradition, the edifice was built in the early Middle Ages, most probbably at the begining of the 9th century, as legend has it. It has a circular ground-plan and, like several other buildings of its kind built around Europe at the same period, a double space. Yet, it is a wholly original project for which there exists no prototype. Unfortunately, its original appereance has not been preserved and it now appears devoin of its former south annex. As a consequence, on this side its central volume results visible from outside. The church, leaning on the early Christian Cathedral now makes part of the episcopal complex. Venice Activities Explore the Doge's Palace, the official residence of the Venetian ruler, founded in the 9th century. Art lovers will not want to miss this magnificent museum, Galleria dell’Accademia. It boasts the most extraordinary collection of Venetian art. In addition to priceless masterpieces by Giovanni Bellini, Paolo Veronese and Titian, there are paintings of 15th- and 16th-century Venice that show how amazingly little the city has changed since then. 12	Monday, 11/23/26	About Trieste Trieste is a city and port in northeastern Italy right on the border with Slovenia. Trieste is located at the head of the Gulf of Trieste on the Adriatic Sea. It is capital of the autonomous region Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trieste province. Trieste flourished as part of Austro-Hungarian Empire during the period 1857 - 1918 when it was Central Europe's prosperous Mediterranean seaport and its capital of literature and music. Today, Trieste is a border town par excellence. The population is an ethnic mix of the neighboring regions; The dominant local Venetian dialect of Trieste is called Triestine. This dialect and Italian is spoken in the city center whilst Slovenian is spoken in several of the immediate suburbs. Italian and the Slovenian language are considered autochthonous to the area. There is also a fair number of German-speakers too. Trieste Activities The Castle of Miramare was built from 1856 to 1860 to a design by Carl Junker on the orders of Archduke Maximilian. The Castle gardens provide a setting of outstanding beauty with a variety of trees, chosen by and planted on the orders of Maximilian, that today make a remarkable collection. The Castle of San Giusto - in which several rooms, including the Sala Caprin, are open to the public - houses a Museum displaying historical weapons and is regularly used for the staging of exhibitions, events and, in the summer, open-air shows. A walk on the Castle ramparts and bastions gives a complete panorama of the city of Trieste, its hills and the sea. n the 6th century a great hall of worship of the Cathedral of San Giusto was built on Roman propylaca, using part of the existing structure. Perhaps the entrance to a monument, this was commonly known as the Capitoline Temple, as a pyramidal altar with the symbols of the capitoline triad (Jove, Juno and Minerva) had been found inside it. Among the works of historical interest in the basilica are the apsidal mosaics depicting Our Lady of the Assumption and San Giusto, laid by master craftsmen from Veneto in the 12th-13th centuries. The small 14th-century church of San Giovanni (the old baptistry) on the left and San Michele al Carnale on the right, by the entrance to the Museum, complete a fine Medieval churchyard. The Roman Theatre lies at the foot of the San Giusto hill, and faces the sea. The construction partially exploits the gentle slope of the hill, and most of the construction work is in stone. The topmost portion of the amphitheatre steps and the stage were presumably made of wood. The statues that adorned the theatre (which was brought to light in the '30s) are now preserved at the Town Museum. Three inscriptions from the Trajan period mention a certain Q. Petronius Modestus, a person who was closely connected with the development of the theatre, which was erected during the second half of the 1st century. In the whole Trieste province there are 10 speleological groups. The Trieste uphill (Altopiano Triestino), the geographical area of the Carso placed in the Italian territory, guess approximately 1500 caves of different size (67 more than 99 m deep). Among the most famous there is the Cave of Trebiciano (350 m deep) where at the bottom flow the Timavo River and the Grotta gigante the world biggest tourist cave. Trieste, Italy	7:00am	7:00pm

15	Thursday, 11/26/26	About Bari Fairy-tale houses that look like chanterelle mushrooms. Alberobello´s little round houses with the cone-topped roofs are called trulli - and they are unique. Their orgins are ancient - some date from 3100 B.C. And they are only found here. Bari Attractions Basilica di San NicolaThe Basilica di San Nicola (Saint Nicholas) was founded in 1087 to receive the relics of this saint, which were brought from Myra in Lycia, and now lie beneath the altar in the crypt. The church is one of the four Palatine churches of Apulia (the others being the cathedrals of Acquaviva delle Fonti and Altamura, and the church of Monte Sant'Angelo sul Gargano. Cathedral of St. SabinusThe church of St. Sabinus (the current Duomo of the city) was begun in Byzantine style in 1034, but was destroyed in the sack of the city of 1156. A new building was thus built between 1170-1178, partially inspiring to that of San Nicola. Of the original edifice, only traces of the pavement are today visible in the transept. An important example of Apulian Romanesque architecture, the church has a simple Romanesque façade with three portals; in the upper part is a rose window decorated with monstruous and fantasy figures. The interior has a nave and two aisles, divided by sixteen columns with arcades. The crypt houses the relics of St. Sabinus and the icon of the Madonna Odigitria. The interior and the façade were redecorated in Baroque style during the 18th century, but these additions were deleted in the 1950s restoration. Stadio San Nicola Local football team A.S. South of Messina, in the shadow of Mt Etna, is the beautiful resort of Taormina. Clinging to the side of a mountain, Taormina affords spectacular views at every turn. After admiring the magnificent Greek Theatre dating from the 3rd Century B.C., take a stroll along the main shopping street to appreciate the harmony of Taorminas architecture. Messina Attractions For a show unlike any you've seen before, check out the world's largest astronomical clock, Orologio Astronomico, in the Piazza del Duomo. It's set in a 197-foot bell tower and when the clock strikes noon, it comes to life. As Ave Maria begins playing from a loudspeaker, the bronze mechanical figures start to move. A lion roars, a bird flaps its wings, and two historical heroines take turns ringing the bell, all before it ends with a statue of Jesus appearing from a tomb. Messina Activities Take a walk through the Duomo, the town's main cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Although most of it has been refurbished in recent years, it has retained some of the original Norman-style features from 1160, when it was built by the Holy Roman emperor Henry VI.
