Pulpit Rock or Preikestolen (Prekestolen) in Norwegian is one of the areas most profound turist attractions. This natural rock formation with a 25 meter squared plateau stands 604 meters above the sea. Thousands of tourists visit the Rock every year. The trip takes about two hours by foot, but the rock formation can also be enjoyed from the sea by boat.
Stavanger Activities
Three enormous bronze swords stand monument to the battle of Hafrsfjord in the year 872, when Harald Hårfagre (Fairheaded Harald) united Norway into one kingdom. The monument was designed by Fritz Røed and unveiled in 1983
Stavanger Cathedral
Near Stavanger, the "Vistehola", stone age cave can be found. It is 8-9 meters deep and the opening is 5,5 meters wide. It was first used by man around 6000 BC
The reconstructed Iron Age Farm at Ullandhaug consists of three wooden buildings with roofs made of peat and bark
The oldest museum is of course Stavanger Museum, which was founded in 1877. The museum covers a wide range of fields with its collections and exhibitions within both natural and cultural history
The coastal town of Alesund is the commercial capital of the More og Romsdal district. But more important, it is noted for its characteristic Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) buildings, which some claim make Alesund one of the most beautiful towns in Norway. Today, narrow streets are crammed with buildings topped with turrets, spires and gables that bear decorations of dragonheads and curlicues. As one of the few remaining Art Nouveau towns in the world, in 1998 Alesund was awarded the coveted Houens National Memorial Prize for the preservation of its unique architecture.
Alesund Activities
Atlantic Sea Park - Located about two miles west of Ålesund, this unique Sea Park is built into a large stretch of coastal area with fishing stands, hiking trails, bathing sites and outstanding diving venues. It features large aquariums teeming with ocean life from up and down the Atlantic. Fish feeding is daily at 1:00 p.m.
Ålesund Museum - The exhibits at this museum concentrate on the history of sealing, fishing, shipping, the fire of 1904, the German occupation during World War II and the town's distinctive Jugendstil architecture.
Ålesund Church - The church was built in 1909 in Norman style. It boasts splendid frescoes and beautiful stained-glass windows. The gable windows behind the organ were an inauguration gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II.
Municipal ParkLocally known as Byparken, it features a statue of Rollo, which was presented to the people of Ålesund from the city of Rouen in 1911. The park also has a monument dedicated to Kaiser Wilhelm II who made major contributions to the rebuilding of Ålesund after the Great Fire in 1904.
Rorvik is a port town in the Vikna archipelago on the Norwegian coast. There are several museums in Rorvik and a hotel. Telenor Mobil is an important employer, as is public service, fishing and commercial salmon fish farming.
Svolvaer is the unofficial capital of Lofoten and the administrative centre of Vågan Municipality (9200 inh) in Nordland County, Norway. This small town (population on 1 January 2005: 4,197) is a favourite starting point for tourists visiting the islands. Svolvaer was given township privileges in 1918, but this was discontinued following a merge with neighbouring municipalities in 1964. Township was declared again in 1996. Approximately 200,000 tourists visit Svolvaer each year. There is a small airport near the town, and Svolvaer is a port of call for Hurtigruten.
Norways northern-most settlement is the picturesque fishing village of Honningsvag. Cross the empty expanse of Arctic tundra to the North Cape. There you will stand atop a a 1,000-foot sheer granite cliff at the literal European end of the earth.

Almost all visitors to this area come specifically to visit the North Cape. While in Honningsvag, you might enjoy the Nordkapphuset, where the museum features interesting displays depicting the local history and culture.
Alta, the Town of the Northern Lights, is continously growing and developing, and has become a centre of commerce and service for large parts of Western Finnmark and North Troms. Finnmark College, the regional educational centre, attracts around 2000 students from the Nordic countries and Russia. Alta's unique closeness to coast, inland, valleys, forests and plains, combined with a generous climate, makes it an excellent habitat for a great variety of plant and animal life.

Here are a few of the places of interest and activities in and around the Town of the Northern Lights: Alta Museum - UNESCO's World Heritage Site, received "European Museum of the Year Award" in 1993. Alta Museum is located near Northern Europe's largest and richest rock carving range. Northern Light Iglo is a hotel made in ice. Even the glasses in bar are made out of ice! Enjoy a truly special experience and unexpected comfort by spending a night at the Northern Light Iglo. You get a warm sleeping bag on a bed of snow, with comfortable reindeer skins, surrounded by ice and snow. The Northern Lights Observatory called Haldde at Mt. Sukkertoppen, built in 1899, the world's oldest permanent northern lights observatory. Sautso - Alta Canyon. Visit Northern Europe's largest Canyon! Destination Alta and The Tourist Information have more information and organises guided tours to the Canyon and the Power Station and dam.
In the heart of fjord country, where Ofotfjorden cuts deep inland from the mountainous northwest coast, lies the port of Narvik, a small, peaceful town surrounded by astonishing beauty.
Andalsnes is a modern town with a history deeply shaped by WWII. Located at the mouth of a fjord, the town is a hotspot for climbing, fishing and skiing. Visit Andalsnes on a Norwegian Fjord itinerary or arrive via the scenic Rauma Railway.
Andalsnes Attractions
Andalsnes is the starting point for one of the great motor drives in Norway: the Trollstigvegen, a 2-hour drive along Route 63 south to Geiranger. The highway climbs to 620m (2,034 ft.) over a distance of 8km (5 miles). The Orneveien or "Eagle's Road" down to Geiranger was a marvel of Norwegian engineering upon its completion in 1952.
Andalsnes Activities
Vegmuseum, Trollstigen , is a little museum at the pass, with exhibitions relating the story of how this incredible road came to be.
Another grand highlight of the area is en route to Dombås (Rte. 9). Both road and train lines follow the Troll Wall or Trollveggen, a major challenge for mountaineers, rising 1,800m (5,905 ft.). A combined Norwegian and British team "conquered" it in 1965.
The visitor center distributes more than a dozen leaflets outlining the best hiking trails through the Romsdalen Alps, a string of mountains enveloping Åndalsnes. The most dramatic route -- and our all-time favorite -- is the full-day jaunt that begins 50m (164 ft.) north of Åndalsnes and climbs to the summit of Nesaksla Mountain, rising 715m (2,345 ft.) over Åndalsnes. At the top you're rewarded with another one of those awesome panoramas. On a clear day you can see down to the Romsdalsfjord. From here the climb continues to the summit of Høgnosa at 991m (3,251 ft.) and on to Åkesfjellet at 1,215m (3,986 ft.).
The Romsdalsfjord is one of the most scenic in western Norway, cutting a deep gash into the earth and extending west of Åndalsnes. The tourist office can arrange 4-hour fishing tours of the fjord at a cost of 250NOK ($36) per person. An annual local license can be obtained for180NOK ($25) from the tourist office.
Bergen is set like a jewel amid seven mountains on the majestic Byfjord. The historic Hanseatic Wharf and 12th-centry fortress gives visitors a glimpse of the influence of the old commercial center. You can attend a piano recital at the home of composer Edvard Grieg.

The medieval Castle Håkon's Hall was built during the reign of King Haakon Haakonsson between 1247 and 1261. It was the largest and most imposing building of the royal residency in 13th century Bergen, then the political centre of Norway
St. Mary's Church is the oldest building still existing in Bergen, from the first half of the 12th century and one of the most outstanding Romanesque churches in the country
The Bergen Aquarium is one of the finest and most extensive collections of marine fauna in Europe
The Arboretum, founded in 1971, occupies an area of 125 acres, part of which is planted with a variety of foreign trees and shrubs. Good walking in wooded surroundings and spots for swimming

Andalsnes is a modern town with a history deeply shaped by WWII. Located at the mouth of a fjord, the town is a hotspot for climbing, fishing and skiing. Visit Andalsnes on a Norwegian Fjord itinerary or arrive via the scenic Rauma Railway. 
Bergen is set like a jewel amid seven mountains on the majestic Byfjord. The historic Hanseatic Wharf and 12th-centry fortress gives visitors a glimpse of the influence of the old commercial center. You can attend a piano recital at the home of composer Edvard Grieg.
