About Vilshofen
Vilshofen an der Donau is a town in the German district of Passau.
One of Germany´s oldest and most beautiful cities, Passau is ideally located at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz, and Danube rivers. This city, with its charming cobblestone streets and graceful arcades, is perfect for exploring. Begin with the impressive St Stephan´s Cathedral. Beneath its lavish interior is one of the largest pipe organs in the world.
Passau Attractions
Set at the confluence of Inn, Ilz and Danube Rivers, enchanting Passau is home to charming cobblestone streets, elegantly colored building facades, and graceful arcades.
Passau's baroque St. Stephan's Cathedral houses the world's largest church organ with more than 17,000 pipes, which is still used for concerts today.
Under the rule of the mighty Habsburgs, Austria was the dominant political force in Central Europe. Today it may be politically reconciled to being a minor player in the European Union but it has few peers as a year-round holiday destination, with plenty of winter sports in the Schwarzenegger-sized Alps, some of the most impressive and overblown architecture in Europe and an unrivalled musical tradition that even The Sound of Music couldn't sully.
A wealth of treasures await you in Vienna - one of Europe´s most dynamic cities. A center of classical music, art, theater, and history, Vienna is the city of the waltz, the Spanish Riding School, Sacher Torte, and the famous Vienna Boys´ Choir. A number of excursions allow you to capture the spirit of this elegant city.
Vienna Attractions
Any visitor to Vienna should be sure to stop in one of the city's famous cafes to taste the delectable Sacher Torte.
Noted landmarks include the impressive Hofsburg Palace, Vienna Opera House, and lavish Schonbrunn Palace, the preferred residence of the Hapsburgs.
The capital of Slovakia, Bratislava is filled with baroque city palaces that have been lovingly restored and is dominated by an enormous castle that sits 300 feet above the Danube. After decades of communist rule, Bratislava is once again transforming itself into one of central Europe's most vibrant cities. See St. Martin's Cathedral in the historic Old Town, Michael's Gate and the neoclassic Archbishop's Palace as well as centuries-old squares filled with shops and cafes.
Bratislava Attractions
Visit 13th-century Bratislava Castle, which offers a breathtaking view of three countries, the Gothic cathedral of St Martin, site of the coronation of many Hungarian kings and queens. On your own, explore the Old Town Hall and the stunning Mirbach Palace.
This enchanting and exotic capital of Hungary straddles the banks of the Danube and is divided into two distinct parts, traditional Buda and more modern Pest. Budapest is aptly called "Paris of the East," for its beautiful evening illumination and reflected lights in the Danube's waters.
Budapest Attractions
The old city features amazing examples of architecture such as Buda Castle, the baroque Parliament building, Chain Bridge and Matthias church, where the coronation ceremonies of Hungarian Kings were held. Gellert Hill, high above the city, offers not-to-be missed views.
Budapest Activities
Everyone can find their choice of sports in Budapest. The most popular place in Budapest for sports is the Margaret Island - even the Prime Minister of Hungary is often seen jogging on some early mornings with his entourage.
Hungarians have always been avid sports people: during the history of the summer Olympics, Hungarians have brought home 460 medals, of which 158 are gold. The top events in which Hungarians have excelled are fencing, swimming, canoeing, wrestling and track & field sports.
Their affinity to water sports is unmistakably due to the presence of the Lake Balaton and the Danube, which have provided ample practice grounds since the beginning of times.
Beside classic sports, recreational modern sports such as bowling, pool billiard, darts, go-carting, wakeboarding and squash are very popular in Budapest, and extreme sports are also gaining ground.

The Port of Vukovar is the largest river port in Croatia. Located just 1.2 kilometers west of the border with Serbia, the Port of Vukovar rests where the Rivers Vika and Danube meet. The local economy depends on trade, wine-growing, farming, breeding of livestock, and the manufacture of processed foods and footwear. Tourism is also important to the economy.
Vukovar Attractions
Among interesting pieces of architecture in the area are the Eltz Castle from the 18th century, Baroque buildings in the centre of the town, the Franciscan monastery, the parish church of St. James, and the Orthodox church of St. Nicholas, the birth house of the Nobel prize winner Lavoslav Ruzicka.
Outside the town, on the banks of the Danube toward Ilok, lies a notable archaeological site, Vucedol. The ritual vessel called the Vucedol Dove (vucedolska golubica) is considered the symbol of Vukovar.
Vucedol is also a well-known excursion destination, frequented by anglers and bathers, especially the beautiful sand beach on Orlov Otok (Eagle's Island).
Novi Sad arose on the left bank of the river Danube, in Backa. It spreads across the alluvial terrace and on the old Danube road, at the site of the most suitable approach to the Danube and most convenient crossing from Backa into Srem, where the Danube is only 350 m wide.
Novi Sad Attractions
A pleasant modern university town with a Hungarian background, Novi Sad is blessed with superb museums, most famous being the Museum of the Revolution and the Museum of Painting, and Museum of Archaeology.

Donji Milanovac is a town in eastern Serbia. It is situated in the Majdanpek municipality, in the Bor District. It is located on the right bank of Lake Đerdap on the Danube.
Donji Milanovac lies on remains of an 8000-year-old Mesolithic settlement of the Lepenski Vir, and of the Roman town of Taliata. From its founding, Donji Milanovac was moved twice. Milanovac was founded in the 19th century on its original site on an island on the Danube river. In 1830, due to frequent flooding, Prince Miloš ordered the town be moved to the nearest, right bank. It became the first town in Serbia built by architectural planning. After construction of the "Đerdap I" hydroelectric power station in 1970, the town was moved again to its present location.
From 1929 to 1941, Donji Milanovac was part of the Morava Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
Vidin is situated in the northwestern-most corner of Bulgaria, at the expansive elbow of the Danube, the grand river which runs through nearly all Western Europe to empty its waters into the Black Sea. The town takes pride in its history, development and traditions. Today Vidin continues to be the venue of extremely beneficial circumstances for foreign trade thanks to its geographical position, natural endowments, economy, history and culture. The town occupies a major place in the national transport system of Bulgaria, which proved decisive in the establishment of the Free Trade Zone. The town is the meeting place of all types of transport - river-going, rail, automobile and air transport. The town also has a direct ferryboat service to and from Romania handling rail cargo, trucks, buses and motorcars, as well as the passage of tourists and a variety of commodities.
Vidin Attractions
One of Bulgaria's oldest riverside towns, Vidin houses the only medieval Bulgarian castle that is entirely preserved. The Bulgarian fortress dates back to the 13th century and is called "Babini Vidini Kuli" (Granny Vida's Towers). Vidin is largely an agricultural and trade center, renowned for its wines.
Rousse is the city of northeast Bulgaria on the Danube River south of Bucharest, Romania. Founded as a Roman fortress, it is today a major port and industrial center.

Oltenita stands across the Danube from the Bulgarian city of Tutrakan.
