About Cozumel
The crystal clear water surrounding Cozumel makes it a favorite for divers and sun-seekers from around the world. Found on the Yucatan peninsula, it is the largest of Mexico's islands and steeped in history, tracing Mayan descendants from 300 A.D. In town, there is shopping for local crafts and dining in colorful restaurants.
Cozumel Attractions
Don't miss the opportunity to explore the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Tulúm, majestically perched above the turquoise Caribbean. The site was occupied as far back as 600 A.D. However, it was most densely populated around 1200 A.D. You will be struck by the pyramid-shaped El Castillo, which dominates the city from atop a forty-foot cliff. The nearby Temple of the Descending God provides equally excellent insight into the architecture of the Mayan people, who gained considerable achievements in the arts and sciences, only to decline and vanish for no apparent reason.
Cozumel Activities
Explore the underwater world of Chankanaab on a deep-sea adventure aboard the Atlantis Submarine.
Discover what makes a dolphin so magical as you play and interact with these amazing creatures in Chankanaab National Marine Park.
Sit back, relax, and bury your toes in the white sand of Playa del Sol beach in Cozumel. This destination offers all the food, drinks and activities you can imagine, including relaxing massages on the beach.
Take a Jeep-safari adventure through the tropical landscape of Cozumel's east side. Ride through sand dunes and trails for an unforgettable experience.
Join the Fiesta party boat for a fun-filled trip to Playa del Sol, with margaritas, rum punch and a live band setting the mood for fun.
Helmet dive in Chankanaab and trek around coral reefs to see the abundant marine life up close.
Escape to the secluded beauty of your own private beach paradise, Passion Island, by a four-person canoe or motorized tender
Discovered by Columbus in 1503, these islands are a popular resort and British Crown Colony that still provides travelers with unspoiled beauty. As a destination known for its superb diving opportunites, the Caymans are home to unforgettable ship- wrecks, brilliantly colored fish and Caribbean-clear water.
Grand Cayman Attractions
Experience a once-in-a-lifetime adventure: snorkeling with stingrays at Stingray City Sandbar. These relatively tame creatures will swim right into your arms and eat from your hand. They have velvety soft skin and love to have their bellies rubbed. Despite their frightening name, they are very gentle and won't hurt you as long as you stay away from their tails.
Grand Cayman Activities
The Blow Holes are an amazing natural wonder. These geologic formations on Grand Cayman provide a wonderful photo opportunity. Waves crash on to rocks, forcing water into caverns and sending geysers shooting up through the ironshore.
Visit Bodden Town, the Island's original south-shore capital. Here you'll find an old cemetery on the shore side of the road. Graves with A-frame structures are said to contain the remains of pirates. There are also the ruins of a fort and a wall erected by slaves in the 19th century.
At the Cayman Island Turtle Farm you can see turtles in various stages of growth, and some can be picked up from the tanks -- a real treat for children and adults.
The tiny village of Hell is little more than a patch of incredibly jagged rock formations called ironshore. The big attraction here are the small post office and a nearby gift shop, where you can get cards and letters postmarked from Hell.
Formerly known as the West Bay Pink House, Old Homestead is probably the most photographed home in Grand Cayman. The pink-and-white Caymanian cottage was built in 1912 of wattle and daub around an ironwood frame.
Built in 1780, Pedtro St. James Castle is Cayman's oldest stone structure and the only remaining late-18th-century residence on the island. The buildings are surrounded by 8 acres of natural parks and woodlands. You can stroll through landscaping of native Caymanian flora and experience one of the most spectacular views on the island from atop the dramatic Great Pedro Bluff.
Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park is a 65-acre wilderness preserve that showcases a wide range of indigenous and nonindigenous tropical vegetation.
Surrounded by the famed Blue Mountains, Port Antonio is one of the most stunning ports in the Caribbean. Beautiful, unspoiled beaches and exotic flora dominate the landscape. Feeling adventurous? Try a river journey on a bamboo raft for two.
Port Antonio Attractions
Port Antonio boasts wonderful arts and culture. Visit and explore this wonderful region and be sure to make stops along the way!
Carriacou Gallery
Should your experiences and impressions animate your creative vein, you will find inspiration at the Hotel Mocking Bird Hills' own Gallery Carriacou where works of local artists are displayed. The gallery plays host to all forms of arts and crafts. Exhibition openings are complemented with musical, dance or literary performances. Children in rural areas often do not have the opportunity to experience and contemplate art; so they are also welcomed to the gallery where they can become more aware of their rich cultural heritage and potential.
A great place to begin your explorations is the nation's capital, Santo Domingo, an enchanting city uniting modern sophistication, old world charm, and Latin charisma. This throbbing metropolis seduces you with superb dining, vibrant night life, and fashionable shopping. It is the first European city in the Western Hemisphere, and a large part of its rich colonial heritage is preserved in a unique enclave beside the Ozama River called the "Colonial City."
Santo Domingo Attractions
Beyond its handsomely preserved colonial past, Santo Domingo's cultural and artistic vitality is showcased in its vibrant theaters and concert halls and its galleries galore. The palaces of the Colonial City have become fascinating museums, but the aptly named Plaza de la Cultura a vast, green oasis in the heart of the city clusters four museums as well as the National Theater, home to concerts, ballet, opera and theatrical performances.
La Romana is the third-largest city in the Dominican Republic with a population estimated in 2005 at 250,000. The city is capital of the southeastern province of La Romana, opposite Catalina Island. The name Romana comes from a balance that was used to weigh merchandise for export. Santa Rosa de Lima is the patron saint of La Romana.
The modern La Romana International Airport was opened in 2000. The city is near several other cities, such as San Pedro de Macorís and the national capital, Santo Domingo de Guzmán. The city is a hub for a growing tourist industry with several nearby local resort spots, such as the beachfront Bayahibe, Dominicus, Casa de Campo, and the growing number of golf resorts that surround the area.
La Romana Attractions
La Romana has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country because of the beautiful beaches and the tourism infrastructure that has been put in place.
Casa de Campo : Resort complex is the flagship of the La Romana All Inclusive Resorts area. Built in 1975 by Gulf+Western to be the premiere destination in the Caribbean, it has lived up to the hype. The resort houses 3 championship golf courses, one of them being the famous "Teeth of The Dog" which is ranked 25th in the world. The Casa de Campo resort also houses its own polo fields and a private airstrip.
La Romana Activities
Altos de Chavón : it is a replica of a 16th century Mediterranean village located just minutes from La Romana. Here youfll find artistsf studios, craft-shops, galleries, restaurants and bars to satisfy all types of visitors. Take in a show at their 5000 seat amphitheater that still attracts big name artists. Altos de Chavón is one of those must-visit locations on a trip to La Romana All Inclusive Resorts.
Casa de Campo International Tourist Port (Muelle Turístico Internacional Casa de Campo) : Over the last century, The Port of La Romana (located on the West Bank of La Romana River or Rio Dulce) has been utilized primarily for the docking of commercial ships, primarily for the transport of sugar and molasses. Upon exceeding the capacity of its port, the Central Romana Corporation built its new tourism focused port on the east side of the river. The platform on the western bank was renovated and the river channel was dredged to a depth of 10.50 metres (34.4 ft).
Inaugurated with the arrival of the vessel Costa Marina on December 2002, the Central Romana Corporation invested US$12 million to extend the existing port by over 40,000 square metres (430,000 sq ft). The port is a modern platform and harbor terminal, with a capacity for two large modern cruise ships.
Today the new facilities boast two docking platforms (East Dock: 255 metres (837 ft) in length, West Dock: 225 metres (738 ft) in length), a 1,000 square metres (11,000 sq ft) passenger terminal and parking facilities which accommodate 24 buses.
Great Harbour is the main anchorage on Jost Van Dyke and the center for nightlife on this beautiful island. The holding for anchors in Great Harbour can be tricky and now there are some mooring balls to make life easier. Great Harbour has the islands police station and customs and immigration office. Its main road is just a sandy strip. A small beach, dotted with dinghy docks, runs the length of the bay.
