About Panama City
Spain settled Panama City in 1519 on the site of an Indian fishing village. Gold and other valuable goods often passed overland through the city to the Caribbean, making Panama a target for thieves. In 1671 British Pirate Henry Morgan tore through town, leaving behind total ruins. Two years later, Panama was rebuilt on a nearby site. The city was still ravaged repeatedly until 1746, when the trade route was changed. Panamas independence came in 1903, and Panama City was declared the capital. After the Panama Canal was completed in 1914, the city became an important international business centre.
Panama City Attractions
The sights of Panama City are many, but much of it can be seen on foot. The Plaza de Francia is dedicated to the 22,000 workers who perished while building the Panama Canal. The ruins of the Church of Santo Domingo features an arch that has stood unsupported for hundreds of years. The golden altar of the Church of San Jose is the only original piece of architecture that remained completely in tact after the Pirate Henry Morgan destroyed the city. There are many museums to explore in Panama City including: the newly restored Museum of Religious Art; the Museum of the History of Panama; the Atnthropology Museum; and the Museum of Natural Science. At Panama Viejo, view all the remains of the city's original site.
Portobelo (formerly Puerto Bello, also Porto Belo) is a port town in Colon Province, Panama. Portobelo was founded in 1597. From the 16th to the 18th century it was an important silver-exporting port in New Granada on the Spanish Main and one of the ports on the route of the Spanish treasure fleets. Today, Portobelo is a sleepy town with a population of fewer than 5000. It has a deep natural harbor. In 1980 the fortification ruins, along with nearby Fort San Lorenzo, were declared a World Heritage Site.
Portobelo Attractions
Today, the town of Portobelo has a unique Afro-Caribbean-colonial flavor. It is located on the Caribbean coast of Panama with a total area of 86,000 acres; 20% of the area is designated as a marine park. A tropical rainforest meets the sea here with long, beautiful stretches of beach and incredible diving opportunities.
Step back a thousand years to pre-Columbian times as you visit the land of the Cuna Indians. Explore a primitive thatched-hut village; and shop for exquisite multi-layer tapestries called molas.
The magic of Cartagena lies in its massive fortifications, the warmth of the people, the richness of the architecture and the infinite range of cultural expression of a doughty and valiant people.
The city is full of romance, and there is the setting for many a tale of times past in every street and square, and along the walls that bound it, waiting for the sunset to evoke past struggles.
On a sunny day vibrates with color along the facades of the buildings and the sea breeze refreshes the visitor on his way along the narrow streets of the old city.
Declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage in 1984, Cartagena encapsulates all the charm of Spanish colonial architecture, the republic period and today, the attractions of intense night-life, cultural festivals, exotic scenery, superb beaches, wonderful food and a wide offer of hotels and tourist infrastructure.
Cartagena Attractions
Walk the streets, look at such splendid buildings as the Palace of the Inquisition, the Clock Tower, the battlements and the Castle 0f San Felipe de Barajas.
Museums, the cathedrals, Spanish-style houses, water sports and some amazing beaches – these are just some of the attractions of the city and its surroundings.
Cartagena Activities
The fantasies and historical legacies of Cartagena invite the visitor to explore a smiling, open-handed city, where you can interact with nature and discover the culture, customs, memories and testimonies of a people who breathe the flavor of the Caribbean in their lives.

Located 15 miles north of Venezuela in the warm waters of the southern Caribbean, Aruba is home to beautiful white-sand beaches, 82-degree days, and some of the warmest people in the world. Our island is 19.6 miles long and 6 miles across, with a total area of 70 square miles. We're located just below the hurricane belt, and unlike many islands in the Caribbean, our climate is dry, so we rarely have a rainy day. On the south and west coasts of Aruba, you'll find Oranjestad, our capital city, and miles of beaches that have been named some of the best in the world. Here, you'll find most of the hotels and all-inclusive resorts in Aruba, and Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA). In the interior of the island, you'll find Arikok National Park, a desert like preserve with a variety of wildlife, cacti and dramatic rock formations. You'll also find some of Aruba's most striking views, as the ocean crashes against the rugged shoreline below. On the northeast coast, along the windward shore, you'll see our island's unofficial mascots, the fofoti trees. The constant trade winds have permanently sculpted them into graceful, southwesterly bending forms.
Aruba Activities
Fringing turquoise Caribbean waters, Aruba’s beaches include wide shaded expanses, quiet retreats, and busy sunbathing and water sports meccas. Much of the seven-mile strip along the west coast is lined with resorts and packed with activity. Beachgoers relax on their comfortable lounges while swimming, snorkeling, kite surfing, water skiing, tubing, parasailing, banana-boating, and all kinds of wet ‘n wild adventures are just steps away.
Dutch settlers came here in the 1630s, about the same time they sailed through the Verazzano Narrows to Manhattan, bringing with them original red-tile roofs, first used on the trade ships as ballast and later incorporated into the architecture of Willemstad. Much of the original colonial structures remain, but this historic city is constantly reinventing itself and the government monument foundation is always busy restoring buildings in one urban neighborhood or another. The salty air causes what is called "wall cancer" which causes the ancient abodes to continually crumble over time. The city is cut in two by Santa Anna Bay. On one side is Punda (the point)—crammed with shops, restaurants, monuments, and markets and a new museum retracing its colorful history. And on the other side is Otrobanda (literally meaning the "other side"), with lots of narrow, winding streets and alleyways (called "steekjes" in Dutch), full of private homes notable for their picturesque gables and Dutch-influenced designs. In recent years the ongoing regeneration of Otrobanda has been apparent, marked by a surge in development of new hotels, restaurants, and shops; the rebirth, concentrated near the waterfront, was spearheaded by the creation of the elaborate Kura Hulanda complex. There are three ways to cross the bay: by car over the Juliana Bridge; by foot over the Queen Emma pontoon bridge (locally called "The Swinging Old Lady"); or by free ferry, which runs when the pontoon bridge is swung open for passing ships. All the major hotels outside town offer free shuttle service to town once or twice daily. Shuttles coming from the Otrobanda side leave you at Riffort. From here it's a short walk north to the foot of the pontoon bridge. Shuttles coming from the Punda side leave you near the main entrance to Ft. Amsterdam.

The Tobago Cays are a scatter of islets ...uninhabited, lazy, enchantingly beautiful with their abundance of marine life and beaches so remote you might well be the first to discover them.
The easternmost of the Caribbean islands, Barbados is also one of the most beautiful. Opt for one of the many tours available, such as the popular sojourn to tropical Andromeda Gardens. They are situated on a boulder-strewn hillside high above the sea, where ocean waters dramatically thunder against the giant rocks below. The beaches on the exclusive east coast are superb, and you may choose to head straight for one and spend the entire day relaxing. Of course, there is always shopping in Bridgetown.
Bridgetown Attractions
For the ultimate day of fun-in-the-sun Barbados-style, cruise on the MV Harbour to a spectacular sandy beach. Snorkel on reefs teeming with tropical fish. Enjoy the rope swing, sun tanning or walking on the beach. Cruise back along the scenic coast while dancing the calypso or limbo, or just relax on deck.
Bridgetown Activities
Climb into a comfortable safari-rigged Land Rover® and prepare yourself for adventure. Visit places inaccessible by tour bus, such as Gun Hill Signal Station, and go off-road through Joe's River Tropical Rain Forest.
Adventure is in the air and so is the smell of a thousand orchids on this fragrant tour of Orchid World and Fisherpond House.
Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views and learn about island culture and history on a comprehensive island tour of Barbados.
