About International Date Line
The International Date Line is an imaginary line on the earth's surface, at approximately the 180th meridian (LONGITUDE). Traveling east across the line, takes the traveler back one day; traveling west, takes the traveler forward one day. Without the International Date Line travelers going westward would discover that when they returned home, one day more than they thought had passed, even though they had kept careful tally of the days. This first happened to Magellan's crew after the first circumnavigation of the globe!

About Nuku'alofa
With a capital whose name translates as 'Abode of Love', there has to be something going on in the Friendly Islands that we don't know about. Most Tongans are warm and welcoming, but it's difficult to see how they could be otherwise when home is a series of lush Pacific islands, bordered by unbelievable beaches, surrounded by coral reefs, basking under a tropical sun. That's hard to beat.
Nuku'alofa Attractions
The most unique attraction is the Royal Palace in the heart of downtown. Although not open to the public, you get a good view from the waterfront of the colonial wooden building which was built in 1867.
Another attraction is the Royal Tombs, set in a manicured park which is closed to the public though visible through the fence.
If you want to get close to Royalty, attend the Centenary Church on Sunday - this is where the King and Queen worship.

About Port Vila
You've got to hand it to the ingenuity and sense of humour of a people who invented bungee jumping to get their yams in on time. You think Vanuatu's beaches are unbeatable on one island until you reach the next. Divers are delighted at the pristine waters, coral reefs and accessible shipwrecks; vulcanologists' eyes go misty at the mere thought of its many smoking peaks; and naturalists lust after its untouched forests, reefs and extravagant bird life. The islands shimmer with a green that almost hurts the eyes amid an ocean so blue you'd think the picture was doctored.

About Sydney
Sydney's laid-back outdoor lifestyle and physical allure make it one of the world's top cities to visit and live in. The stunning harbour provides a dramatic backdrop for the city's famous icons - the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Sydneysiders are a friendly, energetic bunch with a positive approach to life.
Sydney is Australia's only global city. It's a city with a genuine sense of style, a love of sport and celebrations including New Year's Eve, Mardi Gras, the Sydney Festival, and the Sydney International Art Series.
You'll find plenty of things to see and do in Sydney. Sydney Harbour is a natural playground, and the views are world-class. There's a wide-ranging cultural life, a dynamic food scene and vibrant cityscape of outstanding contemporary and colonial architecture. Iconic beaches - most notably Bondi and Manly - and five major national parks deliver unforgettable outdoor experiences.
Sydney Attractions
With its rich natural environment, Sydney is the ultimate outdoor playground. One of the best ways to enjoy Sydney's stunning natural attractions is on a coastal trail such as the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk. This walk isn't just a great workout; you'll discover secret nooks for picnics, grab a coffee at a beachfront cafe along the way or sit down and take in the views.
Leafy Centennial Parklands is an idyllic spot for cycling, walking, rollerblading and horseriding with plenty of room to move - 360 hectares, in fact. The Royal Botanic Gardens in the heart of the city is peaceful and beautiful; lie back under a shady tree and watch the world go by.
Sydney Harbour is the gateway to a world of natural attractions. Navigate your way around the inner-harbour islands by ferry, or why not hire a kayak and paddle your way to a secluded harbour beach for a swim and a picnic?
A short drive from the city reveals more beauty. The world's second-oldest national park, the Royal National Park, lies to the south of the city, while the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area is a scenic 90-minute drive west of the CBD. Both popular tourist attractions, these pristine natural environments come alive in spring and summer with wildflowers and wildlife, and are fantastic destinations for a range of outdoor activities ranging from bushwalks and hiking to camping, mountain biking, abseiling and canyoning. You'll discover wetlands, eucalypt woodlands, rugged bushland, lush rainforests and sandstone gorges; there are photo opportunities at every turn, and you'll come away feeling refreshed and invigorated. If all that activity has you working up a sweat, cool off with a swim in a crystal-clear stream or waterhole, or under a tumbling waterfall.
Sydney Activities
Iconic venues, such as the Sydney Opera House, the State Theatre, the Sydney Theatre Company's home base at Walsh Bay and the Belvoir St Theatre in Surry Hills, play host to an array of theatre and unique shows.
Carriageworks runs a range of exciting events and exhibitions. Or see Illuminate at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the next inspiring show in the Sydney International Art Series.
Sydney has a diverse range of art galleries, from major collections to small artists' studios in the city centre and suburbs, including Balmain and Bundeena, Paddington and Palm Beach. Plan your visit to the Art Gallery of New South Wales and other major public galleries including the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and the Museum of Sydney. Cutting-edge private galleries worth a visit include Object Gallery, Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, The Hughes Gallery and White Rabbit Gallery.

About Bangkok
With its hulking skyscrapers and ultramodern hotels, Bangkok is one of the most contemporary cities in Asia. Thankfully, it never lost its Thai charm, with the museums, temples, food and, of course, people that make Bangkok both quintessentially Thai and culturally diverse. One great way to think about your exploration of Bangkok is to traverse the streets for a taste of the modern, but to get a feel for the historical, more old-style Bangkok, take to the canals.
Bangkok Attractions
There is so much to see in Bangkok that you can easily spend a week in this city to visit all the interesting sights in and around Bangkok.
Bangkok's temples, despite being in the center of a busy metropolis, are some of the finest in all of Asia.
The museums in Bangkok are mostly devoted to Thai art and architecture, but the National Gallery is a place to view art from other countries. Be sure to see the National Museum and the Vimanmek Teak Mansion, as well as the Shed of the Royal Barges -- a one-of-a-kind experience. The Victory Monument is in honor of Thai soldiers. The Erawan Shrine located next to the Grand Hyatt Hotel is one of the best places to see traditional religious dances.Vimarnmekh Mansion - Believed to be the world's largest building made entirely of teak wood, the mansion is three stories high. It boasts thirty-one rooms, halls and ante rooms, not counting the terraces and verandas.Jim Thompson's House - The house is a fine example of Thai architecture. It is furnished with pieces that belonged to Thompson. The American adventurer is best known for revitalizing Thailand's silk industry. His home has become a popular attraction since his puzzling disappearance in 1968.

About Koh Samui
This beautiful island off south-eastern Thailand is covered with coconut plantations and circled by (call us clichd but it's true) palm-fringed beaches. It was once an 'untouched' backpackers' mecca, but is now well on its way to becoming a fully-fledged tourist resort. Coconuts are still the mainstay of the local economy, however, and up to two million of them are shipped to Bangkok each month.
The most popular beaches are Hat Chaweng and Hat Lamai: both have good swimming and snorkelling but are getting a little crowded. For more peace and quiet, try Mae Nam, Bo Phut and Big Buddha on the northern coast. The main town on the island is Na Thon.
Most of the beaches have plenty of rustic, thatched-roofed bungalows but accommodation can still be hard to secure in the high seasons between December and February and July and August. The best time to visit is during the hot and dry season between February and June. There are flights from Bangkok to the island's Don Sak Airport. Several ferry and
jetboat companies operate from Surat Thani: express boats take two and a half hours and jet boats take one and a half hours. Local transport comprises songthaews, though several places hire motorcycles.
Ko Samui's northern neighbour, Ko Pha-Ngan, is more tranquil, and has equally good beaches and fine snorkelling. Its renowned beach parties at Hat Rin are popular with backpackers, though not with the local police. The island is a half-hour boat ride from Ko Samui.

About Singapore
At first glance, this diamond-shaped island just off the coast of Malaysia gleams with modernism and commercialism, making it seem more Western than Eastern. But as you continue to discover the city-state, you'll uncover the eclectic mix of cultures, religions, ancient treasures and British colonial impressions that give rise to a unique Singaporean identity. The cultural fusion is perhaps best expressed in Singapore's unofficial language, Singlish, a unique patois of English, Chinese and Malay.
Singapore Attractions
Thian Hock Keng, the "Temple of Heavenly Bliss," is one of the oldest Chinese temples in Singapore. What was originally a makeshift altar became a full-blown temple in 1841, and it still shines today with red and black lacquer and gold gilt. The shrine honors Ma Po Cho, the Patron Goddess of Sailors, but it also recognizes the Protector of Life, the God of War, the Goddess of Mercy and the Sun and Moon Gods through intricate carvings and statues.

About Kuala Lumpur
Bustling Kuala Lumpur, or KL as it's known, rose up from the forbidding jungle terrain to become one of the most fascinating architectural landscapes on earth. A blend of native Malaysian, Chinese Imperial and European influences has created a city that is as breathtakingly beautiful as it is alive with culture. Replete with fine dining, a fertile arts community and plenty of nightlife, KL has earned a reputation as a must-see world destination.
Kuala Lumpur Attractions
Most of Kuala Lumpur's historic claims can be taken in from the Merdeka Square/Jalan Hishamuddin area. More contemporary charms include the soaring Petronas Towers, the world's second-tallest buildings, Kuala Lumpur Philharmonic and the National Theater. If it's a thrill you seek, look no further than Cosmo's World Theme Park, the world's largest indoor amusement park. Finally, wind down from all that excitement with a visit to the celebrated 93-hectare Lake Gardens.

About Penang
Gorgeous beaches. Abundant culture. Rich history. Excellent food. Truly, there is more to see and experience in the "Pearl of the Orient" than one person can possibly handle, but we still think you'll like it. One of the most multicultural cities in all of Asia, Penang is like a concentrated version of the entire continent, while at the same time it maintains an identity all its own.
Penang Attractions
Penang invites you to get lost (figuratively) in the architectural wonderland of George Town, which doubles as the state's capital city and its Chinese quarter. From there, the massive and opulent Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is truly something to marvel over. Beach-lovers simply have to kick it for an hour or two on one of the many north coast beaches. And make sure you don't leave without checking out Malaysia's largest Buddhist temple. Finally, if you still have any energy left, there are always the monkey-ridden, 70-acre Botanical Gardens.

About Puducherry
Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state. Its French legacy is preserved in its French Quarter, with tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. Colombo, Sri Lanka's political, economic and cultural center with around one million inhabitants is the island's largest city and major port. Visiting Colombo provides some insight into what makes Sri Lanka tick. Its history goes back many centuries and relics of Portuguese, Dutch and English settlements blend with Indian influences for a unique cultural mix. The center, known as "Fort," can easily be explored on foot. Adjacent to the "Fort" spreads Colombo's bustling bazaar area, known as the Pettah.
Colombo Attractions

About Marmagoa
Mormugao (pronounced Marmagoa) is the main port facility of Goa located at the tip of a peninsula jutting out into the Arabian Sea. It is a 45-minute drive to Panjim. Close to Mormugao is the small town of Vasco da Gama. It serves as terminus for the railway line into Goa. The former Portuguese enclave of Goa is one of India's gems with attractions that include the magnificent Portuguese cathedrals of Old Goa, palm-fringed beaches and some of the best seafood in India. Over the centuries, Goa became well known as a great source for spices and an important link in the Arabian trade routes. While spices and silks, porcelains and pearls were passing in and out of Goa's harbors, its lands were being settled by Catholic priests. Among them was St. Francis Xavier, who left a lasting influence on this small, rich region.
Marmagoa Activities
Housed in the convent at the back of the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Old Goa, the Archaeological Museum features a collection of artifacts from the animist cult that flourished in this part of India centuries ago. Also on display are many portraits of the Portuguese viceroys, which offer an interesting study in the evolution of court dress.
Goa is well known for its beaches; Europeans have been flocking here since the early 1960s. The best beaches and resorts are at least six miles away.
