Attractions

Local sights begin on Picton’s attractive foreshore, where you can enjoy splendid views up the harbour from picnic benches set among the palm trees. Picton Museum has relics from the whaling era and a fascinating old sailing ship, the Edwin Fox, which is being restored.

Shopping

Precious minerals may be worth looking into, such as the lustrous greenstone from the wild, boulder-strewn rivers of the area. The area also favors a concentration of craftspeople, especially glass blowers, potters, weavers and woodcarvers, who have been attracted by the high quality of raw materials.

Currency

New Zealand's unit of currency is the New Zealand dollar (NZ$).
