This UNESCO World Heritage Site city was founded in 1680, and most of its remarkable examples of baroque and Roman-influenced architecture remain. Karlskrona sits on an archipelago, and islands that were once previously restricted by the military are now ready for your exploration. Find your own private cove or fresh strawberry patch or visit one of the picturesque villages nearby.

Attractions

Karlskrona's market place is the second largest in Europe. Take a trolley ride beneath the town square in a military rail tunnel, or enjoy the churches there including the Trinity Church and Admiralty Church, Sweden's largest wooden church. Exhibitions at the town museum display items from Swedish Naval history, most notably the ship figureheads from the l7th and l8th centuries. The Blekinge Museum includes a breathtaking baroque garden or you might just take in the natural surroundings with a hike along the coast.
