The clean waters of Helsinki are perfect for fishing. All you need is a traveller's fishing permit, which can be purchased from the Stockmann Department Store or local fishing shops. The shoreline around the Old Town Rapids have been especially preserved for fishing
Helsinki has two 18-hole golf courses of its own, one in Tali and the other in Vuosaari. Separate practice ranges are located at Laajasalo and Paloheinä
Cross-country skiers are spoiled for choice in Helsinki, with over 180 kilometres of skiing tracks. The best tracks can be found in Helsinki's Central Park, and equipment can be rented from the Töölönlahti Recreation Centre
Downhill skiing and snowboarding is possible on several hills around Helsinki, including Serena, Alhovuori and Talma
During the winter months there are dozens of skating rinks in Helsinki, many of which are located near the centre of town. A favourite skating centre is the Kallion tekojäärata at Brahen kenttä, which plays music and sells warm juice and hot chocolate

Shopping
The main shopping streets in the centre are Mannerheimintie, Aleksanterinkatu, Kaisaniemenkatu, Pohjois (North) and Etelä (South) Esplanadi, Bulevardi and Fredrikinkatu. Nearly all of the major malls, department stores and little boutiques are within walking distance of each other.
