Attractions

The Cape Ann Historical Museum (27 Pleasant Street) has permanent and temporary exhibits dedicated to local industry and culture. There are a number of paintings of the New England sea by famous artists Benjamin Blythe and Gilbert Stuart. Good Harbor Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the north shore and has a large expanse of groomed sand and clean water. Somehow the water seems warmer here than it does at nearby beaches [like Singing Beach ]- there are days when the temperature is tepid enough to tolerate long periods of swimming. Hammond castle was built by John Hays Hammond Jr. inventor of the remote control. The castle is a place to house a unique collection of medieval artifacts. In fact, the building itself contains a garden room built from the facades of storefront of a medieval french village, and an archway which was once part of a church and built from carved lava from Mt. Vesusvius. In the great hall, you will find a skull from one of Columbus' shipmates. Even the floors and ceilings in most rooms are over 500 years old. The round library is a must see, and while touring the castle, look out for secret passageways.

The U.S. dollar (USD) is the official currency. Traveler's checks and credit cards are also widely accepted.
