The Gaspesie, or Gaspe Peninsula, is located on the eastern tip of the province of Quebec, north of New Brunswick. It is mostly a coastal region being surrounded by the St. Lawrence estuary and gulf as well as by the Bay of Chaleur. The Gaspesie is 560 km from Montreal and 340 km from Quebec City by road.

The Reford Gardens (Les Jardins de Métis) are recognized as one of Canada’s outstanding gardens. A national historic site, they are the creation of a passionate gardener and plant lover, Elsie Reford. A blend of nature and wild life inhabits 5 gaspesian ecosystems, The Bay, The Lagoon, The River, The Forest and The Tundra together harbouring over 70 various species of the plant life. Its natural beauties and surroundings bring forth the uniqueness of the Gaspesian Fauna Habitats, while simultaneously, wishing to help the visitor develop an awareness for the protection of its environment.
